I rebuilt my tranny. The shop saved me a bunch of money on the gears by getting parts for a T56 Camaro transmission. Same parts at a much lower cost. Been driving it hard with no problems.

MannyG

Yep, I have heard that the gears are the same, except for the hardening technique used. The "Viper gears" can withstand the much greater "Viper torque", where the "Camaro gears" will not. Hope you don't ever have to find out. Good luck!

When I recently had my tranny rebuilt the tech installed a .80:1 5th and .64:1 6th gear kit from Rockland Gear in New York (I really like the shorter gears as I do not due much freeway cruising). He subsequently learned that the gears are from the Aston Martin version of the T-56.

I just replaced my power steering cap with one from a PT Cruiser. The guy at NAPA hooked me up.

Steering column is a Dynasty part.

Foglamps are Audi.

HVAC controls, Ford. Same as my '03 Mustang, '05 Excursion.

Headlight switch is European Ford.

I found that my '72 Plymouth uses the same hood insulation pad clips.

Here's the real shocker. Front side markers are Petersen Manufacturing. Exact same piece at Wal-Mart for $2.00. Just bought new ones for my trailer. I can only imagine what DC gets for these.

This is a valuable thread and should be pinned to the top.
Yeah. I've asked for it in the past. But only group buys and "new color" polls seem to have that exalted status.

Does anyone know if there is any other vehicle that uses any of these parts that would work on my Gen 1 (1994)

Front spindle / knuckle
blower motor housing
oil cooler

That's just a start. I just bought a '94 that got punched in the nose. If anyone has any suggestions or extra parts lying around (drivers headlight?) Let me know.

March UD pulleys for a 5.9 dakota fit the viper and retain the 7 rib belt.

Whole steering rack assembly and tie-rods/ends are the same from the 97-99' 2wd dakotas.

I believe the front wheel hubs are the same as well.

If you need a hose, thermostat bypass to engine bypass, PN 5245 658 on short notice and can't get one, the first several inches of Goodyear 62265 will do very nicely. Don't know what car it goes on.

Loosen the two bolts on the passenger side rocker cover first, and then tighten them before tightening the hose clamps.

Aren't the mirrors borrowed from a Dodge Stealth? The coil packs are from a four cylinder and a 6 cylinder Dodge or Chrysler as far as I know, but don't ask me which model or which year of Chrysler cars they are from. They (Dodge) stole parts from lots of cars to put the Viper into production as quickly as they could. I think the emergency brake lever is from an older Chrysler model as well.

Shoot. My comment above missed a sentence and now I can't edit it.

To get the rubber hose off and on, loosen the two bolts holding the metal coolant tube against the passenger side rocker cover first....

Explaining Viper things to you
The base of the door mirror is different than the Stealth. The part containing the actual mirror is the same. At least that's the conclusion I got from researching this here and also by looking at pics of parts on ebay.

Moral of story... Keep up the good work as all of this is great stuff but do your homework too.

Squeeze bulbs for the lumbar supports were $80 last time I checked. You can get an exact match at a medical supply store (they are blood pressure tester bulbs) for around $5.

Gen II front brake calipers cross to the 2000 Mustang Cobra R.

Wholesale price through Ford is less than $400/ea. They don't say "Viper" though as they are an off the shelf Brembo caliper.

How bout that? My 200th post was actually a (somewhat) useful piece of information...

I have purchased the Dakota inner tie rod and it needs to be shortened an inch or so. This can be done with a hacksaw, but then you'll need to get a die to add another inch of thread.

Therefore, I suspect the Dakota steering rack as a replacement might need some measuring before purchase also.

The Viper wiper has an electronic brain feature (the part that goes bad) so the left and right can tell the black box what position they are in. The minivan motor might be the same, but you'll need the electronic feature for Viper.

More rear caliper info here: Brembo History

If anyone can confirm the Whole steering rack assembly and tie-rods/ends are the same from the 97-99' 2wd dakotas, I'd really appreciate it. My steering rack is leaking like a sieve, and Dodge just quoted me over $2K for a new one.

Rear diff is also howling, so any info on that would be greatly appreciated as well. I don't know if swapping out the gears will make any difference, as it was on my to-do list to get a bit more oomph.

Thanks, guys!

I am checking into the Dana 44 pumkin for my 2002 GTS. I want a spare with shorter gears, such as 3.55s or 3.73s. Preliminary information indicates the pumkin is the same as the one used in manual transmission C4's; but specific for years 1987-1994? I'll continue checking....

I am just getting ready for the new season here. Did some minor maintenance on the car: new intake filters, vented cowl, oil change, etc… Went to the Dealership today in hopes to get a new rubber pad for the brake pedal. Mine deteriorated and slides sometimes off the pedal. I found it dangerous, as metal pedal doesn’t have much grip. Only I was shocked to find out that it costs $87 + Tax. $98.31 for a $4 piece of rubber? WHAT???
Does anyone know if the rubber pad of the brake pedal is crossed referenced with any other one? Or the world is gone crazy?
:omg:
