I has a Hwy Patrol in Sanora, TX (look that up on a map - real thriving metropolis) swing a Tokyo Drift style u-turn thru a 1/4 mile wide I-10 median to chase down me & my wife in the Vipers. His probably cause was "no front plate". He was correct, we were both guilty - $190 x2. Then on my Lemke glass windows on the RT he said "those look too dark". Went to his cruiser and got his little contraption (not exaggerating) threw it on my window and after it ran it's 3-5 second test said "You're ok" (35% on front windows in TX).

Since I knew why we were pulled over and the extent of the damage (tickets) he was going to do then I employed words of a traffic attorney in Seattle, WA (successful one) - "There's no law against being an a$$hole".

So I got out of my car and started looking over my window. he asked "what are you doing out of your vehicle". I said I was looking for damage from your wanton disregard for my property when during your window tint test. He said "I didn't damage your window" - I said I hope not, they are $1250 each only available in pairs. Then I asked why he "really" pulled us over. He maintained "no front plates". I said for a gentleman in his 60's wearing corrective vision on an overcast day you have phenomenal eye sight at over 1/2 mile with combined closing speeds at 170mph (85 mph out there) to determine that this was a TX registered vehicle to which the no front plate would even apply - especially since you turned into the median at least 1/4 mile in front of me.

How was it exactly that you knew this was a TX registered which, for the violations you issued, you conjured up your "probable cause"?

He simply said "experience, son".

..."And a firm security of acting above the law when it suits your quota" I said.

He, while handing me the clipboard, said "I'm sure you know what to do with this". I said "yes I do, thank you. Officer, how soon before we can do this electronically by texting or calling-in. My time is worth more than this fine. I'll remember this when the TSTA calls for donations this year"

So long as you all remember the LEAs are primarily a source of revenue for government agencies then it all makes since.

"To collect & serve (the government)" is their motto, don't forget. Those of you who know me understand my position and the fact that I did/will do exactly as I say. If you operate outside of the law - be prepared to pay the TAX (it's not a fine - no matter how they want to sugar coat it).

Next they will be mandating and issuing fines if you don't paint the walls inside your house a color that generates calm/docile feelings within - for their safety. Just in case your blood red walls enrage you before you enter the roadway. This will also generate mandatory & unscheduled "audits" of the inside of your home to verify compliance - probable cause will be that you exited your driveway a tad bit aggressively (maybe you were late to work) and now they have PC. It's not illegal searches (and seizures) - it's for the officer's safety.

....as we all sit by and watch our civil right decimated.

Time for another drink - Merry Christmas to all!!!!

I had no idea there was another brilliant Viper owner in San Antonio.:lmao::2tu::2tu::2tu:

Every car on the road has blacked out windows in Korea. No one dies from them... sure they drive like they are blind but even without tinted windows they **** at driving.

You are legally able to tint rear windows so how does that help a cop see in? You are supposed to have your side window down when they approach. None of what you guys say for safety of police makes any sense. When has a police officer approached form the front of your vehicle? Even without tinted windows you could have a gun waiting in your lap and blast him in the face.

All this talk "makes sense" but honestly it just provides a false sense of security.

Read earlier posts...you missed the point...the law was not written for officer safety. I stated earlier the reason for the law. May not agree with it, but that was the intent of the law. It is an added benefit for us though...yes, it makes a difference.

And while I agree with you, I'm still offended you by your Korean comment and their superb driving ability! :rolaugh:

Did some research, as Urhuckleberry mentioned (thanks for being good cop) in CA we cannot have any shade attached to driver and passenger side windows, so cop does not need to measure how dark window tint is, hence whatever BS you heard from tint shop that 75% shading legal in reality BS. If cop wants to give you ticket for tinted windows he'll give you a ticket for the 75% shade just as well.
I also read on the net that I can stop by the doctor and get a "note" which would state that due to the skin damage that I get from the sun driving this car I need to have this protection. However, I am not very sure if this thing will work with local cop who has a vendetta with me.

Will not work with cop if he/she wants to give you a ticket, but may hold water in traffic court;) I say peel it and if you choose, re-tint! I see people do it all of the time!

I don't understand this logic, cops are the wrong target.

Laws are passed by legislators and cops are tasked to enforce them.
If you thing that a law is stupid, go after the legislators, not the cops

As with any job, a cop still has ability to excercise how he/she does their job, and use some common sense when writing tickets.

If I am being pulled over for window tint so a cop can look for other things like DUI or drugs. But upon being pulled over, I put my windows down, and I am found to be a regular law abiding citizen not doing anything wrong. Then I should be let go with a warning, instead of being asked to raise my windows to check for tint and then ticketed. I show him the respect of lowering my windows before he even gets out of his cruiser, so why can't I be thrown a little respect back and not be written a BS ticket??

Your statement makes sense, but the unfortunate reality is that it is virtually impossible to do anything about legislations. Most driving infraction laws are created with revenue collection in mind, and not for safety. So any argument you make to legislators will simply fall on deaf ears, because they don't care about your safety, they care about $$$$$$$

How about we just leave the idiots to the road and fend for themselves...how about when your kid is run over...thats traffic related??? We have traffic divisions...the jurisdictions demand it...honestly, I could care less about traffic...I don't work it anymore. But when someone is speeding in a school zone, who do you think they call? The laws are enacted for a reason...get a freaking grip people and grow up.

Orrrr................ How about the police just start enforcing the laws that are created for safety, instead of putting so much focus on the ones created for revenue collection, ie; window tint, front plate, speeding, seatbelts, etc, etc.

You stood out to the cop more so than a Honda. : Makes sense
You broke the law, twice, and got the tickets to prove it. : Makes sense.
Your mad because you knowingly broke the law and got caught. : Makes no sense.

I too have no front plate and really dark tint. When I get pulled over, the windows go down and my hands go on the wheel. When the cop hands me the ticket I smile and tell him "I appreciate you doing your job.". I chalk it up to the price of being a bad ass.

**** it up. You drive a Viper and live in California. Billions of people would trade lives with you in a heartbeat.
:2tu:
:usa::usa::usa:

You are only half correct, yes on the Viper but wrong on California. I left that God forsaken state and will never go back. The billions you speak of are crossing into the state from Mexico at this very moment.

Cops are not paid to take a bullet for your sorry butt...not in job description...but rest assured, when the bullets start flying my troops run towards the gun fire while you run away!

And get your facts straight...we deal with 1% of the population 99% of the time...how about drunk driving??? Thats traffic related...look at the fool that received 51 years-life for murdering the Angels pitcher and his friends...that started out as traffic related.

----------------------------------------

I never said that your being paid to take a bullet for me. I said that as you sign up to become a cop you also sign up to take certain risks.....thats part of your Job.

The fact that you are comparing speeding in a scool zone and drunk driving to 'Tinted Windows' shows that you are not getting the point at all, that I (and others posting on this thread)are trying to make. I am glad you are out there fighting crime but what I am trying to get across is that window tinting should not considered a crime nor should be a reason to get pulled over.

This is not about bashing cops....and Yes its a Viper forum, so lets get back to how the thread started, and that is whether or not a driver of a car with tinted windows should be pulled over for that reason alone.

We are not trying to change the laws here, just talking about opinions based on personal experiences.

....and Yes....I slept through plenty of classes in School (as you mention) but still managed to get to where I am at today. Imagine that.

Get a grip! Cops don't have a problem with it...once again, you didn't read earlier posts or pay attention in school...Cops don't make the laws...that class is over.

Not trying to fan the flames, be argumentative, or bash. Everything you've said makes logical sense and I agree with almost all of it. Except the statement above. That's simply not true unless you don't classify State Highway Patrol as cops. In Minnesota they target vehicles with illegal window tint. I've been told as much by a trooper who told me "I" will right a ticket for illegal tint every time. No questions asked. No warnings. Zero tolerance. I have personally been pulled over three times by the Highway Patrol for no other reason than my tint.

"I say let all the criminals go...fend for yourselves people...you think it's crazy out there now! That is sarcasm...I really don't believe that! LOL"

The funny thing is, I know a lot of people that would prefer this! It sure would save us a ****-load of money on trials and jail. :)

Thats too bad....hmmmm, I guess it wouldn't be wise to drive with tinted windows there, or get the tint that removes and re-applies easily....there's your million $$ idea!

CHP here are often joked about as a "Cop that will cite their on mother!" Not always true, but that's their job. Shoot, my wife was a motorcop...nothing worse than a red-head female cop on a bike!!! She probably would have cited me!:lmao:

Look people, thanks for the support...it sure is nice to know you are supported doing your job that really isn't a popular one to begin with. Some great people in here...I promise I won't cite you for tinted windows! Actually, I couldn't tell you how long it's been since I have written a traffic cite!

Drive safe out there...speed on the track!

Next topic...license plate lamps! ;)

Urhuckleberry - For many years back when I was young and wild (haha) I never liked the cops ruining my fun, but in retrospect, I was always doing something stupid that deserved the L.E. attention. Now, I have many buddies who are cops and honestly I can't imagine dealing with some of the stuff they have to deal with on a weekly basis. Finding abused and dead kids in stairwells, showing up at white trash residences to deal with domestics, exchanging fire with some ******* who just robbed and beat some nice old hard working couple. NO - I don't wish that on anyone. I know some of the younger cops can go off on power trips (and the odd old one too) but people have to realize you will find that in every occupation to some extent. I know you can't possibly corral all the bad guys, but I for one, and I'm sure most others, appreciate your efforts in keeping the majority of dipsh*ts off the street and keeping our families safe. And no, the cops I know aren't rejects or stupid.:D

Don't make an attempt to twist my words around. I never once said I am an advocate of not wearing seatbelts or anything else. But if someone chooses not to, that is their own business, and none of mine nor the police forces.

And btw, speeding is not dangerous, driving too fast for conditions is. Most speed limits are purposely set low, just to be able to collect revenue from "speeders". This is the common sense part that most brain washed sheeple are unable to comprehend. Yes, I do speed when the conditions call for it. But on the other side of the scale, I have seen times where the speed limit itself was too fast for conditions, and I drove under it. It is all about exercising common sense, but unfortunately they can't teach that at the academy. And before you try and twist my words again, I am not saying speeders should just be ignored. There are good and bad drivers, and bad drivers who speed will be doing many other dangerous actions while speeding. They can easily be ticketed for those offences if the officer chooses so. And the sickening part, is that the people doing these dangerous actions, will do them when travelling at or below the speed limit as well, and they are more of a danger to the road than most drivers travelling above the speed limit. Yet the poor drivers are ignored so that police can focus on speeders.

How is it you figure you would have more time to eat donuts, if you were to actually do your job based on a safety aspect, as opposed to a revenue collection aspect?? If you were to drive in an unmarked car on the highway, you could pull people over all day long for safety infractions. The only difference is that over time poor driving habits would be corrected with this method of enforcement. Instead we just allow the death tolls to remain the same, since we do not punish poor drivers and force them to change.

true, from a safety standpoint, non-tinted windows can safer for a cop, but its the insurance companies that push for that law because they claim you cant see safely out tinted windows at night. cops dont push for that law, its the insurance companies.

as far as the safety point goes, many states including IL allow tinted windows, and no noticeable difference can be found concerning cop safety between tinted and non-tinted states.

That is very true. Have your window open so they can see in when approaching the vehicle. Another thing that shows respect is to remove sunglasses if you're wearing them, and look the officer straight in the eye when talking. A little respect does go a long way......

Pretty clear cut what you said...enforce laws for safety, instead of putting so much focus on the ones created for revenue collection, ie; window tint, front plate, speeding, seatbelts, etc, etc...Nobody twisted your words...it was pretty clear what you mean.

...the donut comment was sarcasm...I actually hate donuts and have never eaten one while on duty.

We do have divisions that are in unmarked...

So it's up to you when it is safe to speed??? Wow, why can't people just realize what the law states and accept the fact they broke when they do, and pay the consequence when they do. Traffic was the worst assignment I have ever worked. I hated every minute of it. Was not told to write tickets for revenue, believe me, there are enough people committing traffic violations that we don't have to worry about the cities or state making revenue. I didn't know you were an expert on how we determine a safe speed for an area/zone. I have been involved in that process and again, you are wrong. We have actually raised the speed limit in areas because we didn't feel it was fair. The city was demanding an area be a certain speed because of so many complaints and after our study/survey, we had it raised up considerably.

Never twisted your words around...so many of you think you are "Know it alls" on my colleagues and how we do our jobs...Some argue for the sake of arguing because thats just what they do.

The topic got off topic because some fool made some pretty harsh statements about cops...made them behind the safety of his computer.

I feel there are very good people in here...but as a new member, it disgusted me to see comments as such coming from what I figured would be intelligent and mature people. I don't think that his comments were a reflection of the club as a whole, but the mere fact that nobody chimed in until I finally made a comment, bothered me...and then the tables were turned and the discussion took a wrong turn...Certainly not people I would associate with. Hell, I completely understand that person would have a dislike for cops...with that attitude, I can't understand why the cop went through an entire safety inspection and wrote him for every "BS" violation there is!! (Oh, there are a lot...over 40,000)

So nobody twisted your words around, so don't accuse me of doing such or attempting to do it a second time.

A word of advise to the few that have their heads buried up their exhaust pipes, the cop isn't the one that needs to be nice...they aren't the ones about to possibly receive a ticket, being courteous is the best option. Sure you may get a ticket for that BS window ticket, but then again, you may just get off with a warning. I certainly hope it is the warning. That way something productive than this topic can be discussed.

Funny little side note...while I was working patrol many years ago, my uncle was stopped by a neighboring city officer for SPEEDING and he threw my name down. The cop called me and told me...I asked him if my uncle was polite and he told me he was quite the opposite...Long story short, I told him to cite him and I would hear about it at the next family gathering. I did and I told him maybe he shouldn't have been a ****. Not saying that by just being polite you will avoid a ticket, but it doesn't hurt.

In CA, a tinted window is a mere fix it ticket...unless you piss off the cop. The cop can decide to check the box that makes it a non-correctable violation and then you must pay a fine along with correcting the violation instead of paying a very small court fee for the fix it ticket.

To the OP, if you like tinted windows, again I say peel it, have the ticket signed off, hell, I'll sign it off, then if you choose to put it back on, go ahead, it's your choice.

For the rest, give the topic a rest. Good luck to all of you out there...no sarcasm, I really mean that.

Pretty clear cut what you said.....it was pretty clear what you mean.

Yes, I thought so, which is why I was correcting you on me saying I am an advocate for people not wearing seatbelts, speeding, etc.

Not sure if you are grouping me in with others, who have had hateful words about police officers?? But I can assure you that isn't me. I do fully respect police, and I sure wouldn't do that job for the amount of BS you put up with, combined with the pathetic pay for it. Which is what ultimately drove me away from pursuing a law enforcement career myself. But in all my dealings with Traffic Enforcement officers(which I group seperately from regular police), I have only met about 5 that seemed to have a head on their shoulders and could think for themselves. And those are the guys that hate traffic enforcement. So this is why most dealings people have with traffic cops are bad ones. Because the guys that can think for themselves do their stint, and then get out to another department. I will admit though, that traffic police in the US do seem much nicer and easier to deal with. Never had a bad experience with a highway patrol down there. Up here at least 90% of the dealings I have had, have been with power tripping DB's. But bottom line is there is nothing more bothersome to me, then seeing police set up speed traps on a highway where the speed limit changes, and there is a 0% accident frequency in the area. There is no plausible way anyone in their right mind can argue that helps safety.

Jason, you will find that there are quite a few people posting here that make a hobby out of hating groups of people, and use the forum to make themselves feel good about it. Personally, I don't enjoy hating people, so, I don't dwell on such things.

I don't think that the Viper generally attracts the mental maturity level that you might find on the Cadilac forum, though !

The anti-cop or anti-anything threads pop up now and again, and it never is productive to disagree; because the most vocal haters never think that they are haters.

I generally just sit back and watch the train wreck.

How many illegals have you arrested? Everyone of them are considered criminals by just being in this country breaking federal laws. So while the cops sit around in donut shops watching real crimes commit, the only thing they're eye is on are those car with tinted windows and no front plate. Great use of our "traffic and safety" resources

Oh and the person that clean up after you at that donut shop is probably illegal..............:crazy2:

Want to get out of this ticket?? Here's how ya do it. First--plead not guilty, sometimes the loser/jealous cop won't even show--(not guilty). However, to be prepared in case he does, here it is folks, take notes--take a picture of another Viper similar to yours without tint---show the picture in court--and bingo--out the door you go, still with your money. Now should the cop/judge want to see your hot rod in person--well then you must remove the tint.
All this is is another form of a tax on us. If cops whine about how rough they have it--two words--I quit!!!
Guaranteed a very very small percentage of cops ever have gotten in a gun fight
Good luck against the "machine" F em

Oh, not to highjack, but since a comment was made about the ridiculous front license plate as being with no purpose, I had an odd occurrence years ago. I got a summons in the mail for not appearing in court for a parking ticket in the next town. I called the clerk of the court to explain that it was a mistake. Didn't want to hear me. I went to court with my license plates, front and rear ( this was in Jersey ) and the plates were one number different front to rear. The guy with the other matching set was the culprit. Not guilty, and very odd happening.

Wow, looked who decided to chime in....More cop bashing. I will try and keep this civil...

While I agree with you that we have an illegal immigrant problem, I'm not going to have this discussion on this forum...and certainly not in a Tinted Window thread.

When the people "Upstairs" make it a crime we can solely arrest for, and my boss tells me to do it instead of putting child molesters away, then I guess I will. (By the way, we do deport them if we arrest them for another crime...that is all the law allows us to do right now, but that's a topic for another time and definitely place)...and if you were smart enough to read previous posts, you would see even from other members, the cops don't make the laws.

As far as writing cites brother, not my job. I'm a detective working "Crimes Against Children." So I really don't have a whole lot of time to watch for "Tinted Window" violators or whatever your idea of a real crime is...

So don't preach to me sonny about real crime...

Can't wait to meet you at an event...and introduce you to the family. My half Hispanic kids love to steal wheels off pretty cars.:lmao: :2tu:

Save me a maple bar!! I'm a sucker for those;)

So go back to you're little "Grumpy Face Emoticon " and while you do, I'm going driving...sun is out here in California! Going *******...and so is the car!:D

Thanks for playing...;)

Well aren't you a box of useless knowledge...loser/jealous cop?? G'damn you are a stupid person....I think you hit your head to hard! :bonker::bonker:

What rock did you crawl out from under?? I don't recall any cops whining about how rough they have it. I, as a matter of fact love my job. I probably don't make as much as some here, but who cares. I have made enough money to take care of my family and send my kids to college. And when all was said and and done...I even had a little left over to buy me the car I have always wanted.:):D

If you feel you can get out of a ticket some cop wrote you, then great...the cop doesn't care. And I sure as heck don't. Provided some insight on the law in California...then you showed up to the party "A day late and...." well, I really don't care how much money you have or don't...

Thanks AZTVR,

These guys are a riot...I am actually thoroughly entertained!! The stupidity of some of these morons is great!! I'm not surprised in the least bit though...

Sorry, though, no more time to play...wife is ready to hit the road...gotta go!! Decided to hit Palm Springs for lunch! A great Chinese restaurant out there...
