I have the OBD 1 scanner for my gen 1 and it will tell you all diagnostics including live data. Will
also allow you to clear codes by a reset option. Scanner is dirt cheap on Ebay due to lack of demand.
In the aisle of the miscellaneous nuts, bolts and fasteners. They are located in the pull-out
drawers section. They are the exact same as the oem at a cost of about .27 cents each!

I got mine new off Ebay... $50 for OBD 1 Works awesome on the gen 1. You have the ability to also verify that all your gauges including tach is accurate. Will also clear the codes.
There are two lights... engine indicator and the other is the check engine light. The first will energize if there is an issue with the oil psi or cooling ckt.
Take a look in your friendly DC manual and you can disconnect the wire. I recall a friend wiring in series a single pole switch that he left under the ashtray ...........
