This is the full and original article.

Aspects were expurgated due to religious persecution of me by the editor.

I have launched a law suit against the magazine because I gained weight while eating popcorn and reading the article.

Watch for more in the fall issue.

Thanks for sharing Alice.

I still like the one about your neighbor "revving his engine, or humming loudly."

Great article Alice... read it last night...but didn't make the connection to you until now. Do you have a background in creative writing or journalism? It was extreamly well written! Congrats...

Charles:

My only writing is for Viper Magazine. I have, however, spray painted gang slogans on subway walls and tenament halls.

My only goal is for Viper owners to derive some inner satisfaction from what I write.

I also enjoy the royalties which fund my crack habit.

I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Alice,

You should spread your wings then and continue writing... you might be surprised that big royalties may soon follow. Of course to fund all your habits, especially those having to do with fast Vipers...

What about "Zen and the Art of Viper Ownership" or better yet "On The Road: Viper Style" a la Jack Kerouac, a cross-country odyssey with Alice into current American thought and the culture of Viper ownership.

Just a thought... I think you'd have an big audience... it would surely become of cult classic.

Alice---How about a article for VCA magazine on Hot Rod Power Tour this June. I'm sure they would love a daily log and pic's from it. Hey, they might even pay for your gas, hotel, meals. I volunteer to be your assistant in charge of cleaning our cars and running errands.

The Power Tour requires a time investment that most of us do not have unless on salary (or in retirement). But, unquestionably, someone should do that. My goal, at this point, was simply to have some humor for the magazine. I am conceptualizing another, but it could not make the magazine until spring, 2006, but it might be quite timely at that point since it refers to that Z0x thing from Chevrolet.

Alice,

"Fear and Loathing" would be more in tune with some of your more bohemian habits but "On the Road: Viper Style" would have more of a mass market appeal.

Or perhaps something in the style of "Gig : Americans Talk About Their Jobs" -- a fascinating collection of interviews with over 120 Americans who talk about their jobs in their own words. I can see it now....Viper owners talking about their varied lives and love of their cars.....it has real potential... don't you think?

I am only half joking... I wrote a book a few years ago that hit a few bestseller lists and was favorably reviewed by the New York Times (www.amazon.com/garcia) so I think getting it picked up for publication would not be hard. Your sharp wit, crisp writing style, and passion for VIPERs makes you an ideal chronicler of a very exciting and little known piece of America....

Again, just a thought......you do want a few more Vipers in your garage don't you? I'm sure that will really do in your neighbor.

Thank you; glad that you got a kick out of it.

Charles:

I did not know you were an auteur. That is very cool. A book for Viper owners would be interesting but not likely to sell in quantity and connecting with a published is extremely difficult.

Alice,

It is not as difficult as you think. If I could do it anyone can. You put together a 12-15 page book proposal, maybe a sample chapter, send it around, and see if someone bites. I could introduce you to a few senior editors (John Wiley and Random House). If they are interested they give you a nice advance, and ask you to give them a finishted product in 6 to 9 months. I also know one of the top book agents in the business out in Beverly Hills who represents over 20 #1 NYTimes best selling authors who can be very helpful once you have a well crafted proposal. You have want it takes in terms of writing skills, now you just need a great concept with broad market appeal. And you can do it all from the comfort of your home between cruising in your Viper and indulging your other habits.

Charles:

I do not see there as being a large market for a Viper oriented book from a company with the stature of John Wiley. Indeed, I am not certain how many Viper people would be interested in a book of vignettes, whimsy, etc regarding the car that they own.

There is a similar book of guitar stories that has had commercial success, but there are more guitars sold per day than in the history of the Viper.

I fear that the market is not there.

also i would expect in return that you purchase something from my company. one
good deed deserves another right? LMAO, with the amount of money you will be
making buying one of my highend custom home's either on the ocean, which i have
a lot for you as we speak or just buy a lot in your area and i'll do the rest,

I may begin a blog site instead, solely for Viper, solely for my musings.

What do you think of that concept? It would spread the Viper word more than a limited distribution book.

Looking into it.

When my signature block has a URL of the blog site, it will be active. Takes MySQL, PHP, etc etc.

Alice,

A blog site is a great idea....but don't dismiss the book concept either. The trick is to give it mass market appeal. I didn't say it would be easy, it would take some creative thinking. But, it's very doable.

If fiction, the character can be a woman Viper owner .... the plot...hmmm... would have to have a broad appeal....the creative light bulb hasn't gone off yet. Long day. If non-fiction, a book like GIG might work if the people chosen were very different yet shared a common craze for VIPERs .... did you read the USA Today poll of the top 20 cars by emotional attachement of the owner, and Viper was ranked #1? The book would have to capture that emotional pull by the owners and somehow bring it together in an unusual way. Again all you have to do is write the concept in a proposal and shop it around.
