Black chrome is not a powdercoating. It is still chrome, but I believe just with a different tint. I'm not sure how it works scientifically.

Hmmmm, I called a power coating place the other day about black chrome, and he told me (sure we can do black chrome). He must have been stiffing the power. Guess I will call a chrome place tomorrow. Thanks for the info, I think black chrome would look better on my coupe anyway's.

just called every chrome shop here in salt lake, and nobody here does black chrome. Guess I might just have to stick with black powercoat.

There is a black chrome powder paint.I am having some rims powder coated now and my painter suggested and showed me black chrome.I ended up with a semi gloss black but you can definitely powder coat them Blk Chrome.

I would be careful. I've never found a company that can powder coat as well as the factory. If you must, wait and buy someones set with curb rash and sell yours for new. Have the rash fixed and then powered coat.

I think the older M5 has it. It looks like chrome with a lot of brake dust to me.

Black chrome is not consistent from shop to shop (plater to plater). I have seen the same shop turn out different shades, too. It will NOT look as rich and black as black powdercoat or black anodizing. I have some samples of chopper parts that look like a shiny, chrome, dark bluish, or dark grayish, or light grayish. These were tests for a project I am having built, went to black anodizing and powdercoat for the non aluminum parts. Please make sure you see examples of the shop's work and then determine if its worth it to you. You may like it?

Black chrome is colored chrome, powdercoat is powered
pigment applied as a powder then heat cured.
At this time in the motorcycle world the "black"coating
that is getting a lot of play is "black nickel"
looks like the original black chrome but is much
more durable.

I have been thinking about black chrome for my yellow Z06 wheels. It would be nice to get the real scoop on it from someone. My wheel guy advised against it stating that it flakes off easily. He suggested anodizing but the examples he had lacked the shine I am looking for.
