Has it been mentioned anywhere that the GTS coupe is also based on Ferrari 250 GTO?

This past weekend, i bought a British automotive car magazine, Car, and it has an article about the greatest Ferraris which includes the F40, Enzo, the Ferrari 250 GTO along with a few other Ferrari's. When i came across pictures of the Ferrari 250 GTO, i was surprise to see the similiarity of its side profile to that of the GTS...from the duck tail (if that's what the end of the GTS is called), to the rear haunch of the car, to the curves of the windshield and so on.

I understand and read somewhere that the GTS is based on the Shelby Daytona Cobra, but has it been mentioned anywhere if the GTS coupe is also based on the Ferrari 250 GTO?

Thanks!

Similarities? Sure... but had nothing to do with the GTS' design.

the 1st Shelby Daytona coupe body also happened to be built by the same body fabricator as the 250GTO Scallietti(sp?)

I believe I read somewhere that the inspiration for the GTS was the Daytona Cobra and the Ferrari GTO. I have 1/18th scale models of the 3 cars displayed in my dining room.

One of the pleasures of being single is you can put things where you want them.

The GTS definitely borrows design cues from the Ferarri 250 GTO and the Cobra Daytona Coupe. This has been mentioned by many auto journalists.

Long hood, short tail, upturned spoiler on trunk, curved lines, hunched rear fenders give the car the animalistic look of a tiger about ready to pounce.

The similarity between the GTS and the Daytona Coupe is evidently very irritating to the Type 65 coupe faithful, so much so, that they had to go and say this, to try and distance themselves: "A Viper is not a Cobra Coupe.............There was only one (actually six) Daytona Cobra Coupe! Another great chapter in the racing history of Shelby American."

Even more fitting is that they're all in their natural habitat! :)

Super nice photos, all atthe same angle. It just kills me when I OCASSIONALLY,rarely hear someone say they think the GenII looked "dated".

I think the GenII is the most iconic representation of American muscle. With the GT40 and new GT coming in2nd.

Thanks guys...it was fun!

I don't mind the "dated" comments, because it comes from someone who has no sense of classic proportions. By their logic, then the GTS was dated when it first came out, seeing how it borrows so heavily from the Daytona Coupe and others. Didn't any of them notice that in '96? Then why worry about it now? All great art draws on the past. Except "modern art", where you sling paint at the canvas, get stoned, and contemplate the mess it made!

Who cares?

In these great pictures I see:
  • three timeless classics
  • two icons, and
  • one "icon-in-the-making"
Body in white very similar in all three cases, although the Viper has the edge in stance and aggressivity.

Vic, great research and choice of pictures! :2tu:

These cars will be looked upon with the some or even greater envy and admiration in 20 years........

Let them eat cake!
