Bruce I am not blaming the car I am blaming the marketing of the car. They are the ones that wanted to attract that crowd with the G5. What I am saying is there goals could not have been achieved by the G5 so they aimed the car at the wrong crowd. I don't understand why that is being...
Why is it that everytime someone mentions the reasons why it failed at "selling" for some reason people hear "we think its a bad car", "its not competitive at all performance-wise", "its not good enough to be worth 100-120k" etc?
Sorry but my statements above are purely from the marketing...
I think that they did an excellent job with the G5 overall except in few areas that are subjective/objective but I wont go into it. However, an upgraded interior etc is just not enough to go after the Porsche crowd. What SRT effectively did was improve the Viper in leaps and bounds compared to...
Oh no sir. That was one of the problems with SRT's marketing approach with the Viper. Not staying in your lane can cost you as SRT found out. I only want to see the Viper take it to the sub-hypers in all corners hence my comment. This was the quote I had in mind when I made my post:
Mark my response was grounded on that quote from one of the mags about the direction they were considering taking the Viper if my understanding of the quote was correct. They made those statements even though sales are in the toilet. Maybe I did not understand the quote correctly? Ill have to...
I would hate to see a base model as well. There should not be a G5 Viper model with less than 640hp imho. I can however see a more rounded higher hp/tech model boasting 750+hp to compete with the sub hyper exotics like the Mclaren 650S/Aventador etc in more than just road course racing.
Wow...The marketing dept is on fiyaaaa....It was funny to see one poster, cant remember who, predict that the mystery 5hp will make the Viper 3mph faster in the 1/4 at 131mph lol.
It will be slightly less capable if he uses a non-TA badge at the front though right?:D
Seriously though, adding a badge won't do a thing to the cars performance/safety in any reasonable way. Go for it. But check to see if you void your waranty before you remove it. lol
No prob at least you got a good baseline to improve on for next time. Sounds like a lot of fun regardless and like you said there will always be carrots lol. Be safe.
Thanks for sharing. The car is definitely one of the most track worthy street cars sold today. Bulletproof on track has always been one of the Vipers staples over the years especially compared to some of the competition. Sadly I can't watch the video here at work with the nazi filter they...
I'm actually going to agree with Bob on this aspect. You can't blame him for putting out his idea of the perfect Viper. I'm sure most of us, if given the reigns like Ralph was, would create what we each see as the perfect Viper for us. It would not necessarily be what everyone else wants etc...
You might be right Jon but I was looking at a way to make all sides happy though that is pretty much impossible. Eventually Dodge will have to let go of the past if they want to succeed in the present.
Woah...that would be a huge departure from the Viper formula. If true I wonder how Ralph feels about this? In any case its obvious the car needs to offer competing tech AND performance to be taken seriously and sell successfully in this era. It seems performance without the tech is not taken...
Well even from a roll, negating the full awd advantage, it would still destroy the Viper. Its a different class of car. The Aventador traps between 134-136mph in the 1/4 and tops out much higher than the Viper does. Sadly even with 640hp and lighter than Aventador weight the Viper can't crack...
The market has dropped the price to as low as 72k to 90k brand new and they are still not flying off the lots. That may indicate that G5's image will not recover in its lifetime imho hence my suggestions that Dodge start fresh with generation 6 and equip the Viper in a way that it can actually...
Well for me if they insist in taking it up-market and challenging Porsche etc then equip the "G6" in a way that that demographic will take it seriously. That will mean exploring and R&D'ing real technological solutions like DI, DCT/LC combo, possibly DOHC configs or if not maybe a smaller...
The Viper/Hellcat have no chance against the Aventador if that racing is the straightline. Roadcourse is a much different story for the Viper vs Aventador however.
Wow. This would be great for those that are waiting for a convertible G5 that may or may not materialize. Get one of the heavily discounted 13's around 70k to 90k-ish and add the 35k conversion and you have a convertible for 105-125k.....
Yet here you are repeating the same thing I've seen you post over and over again once someone does not agree with you. Name calling etc. This is what happens on forums its not new. I won't go further since it would be negative. Just note that I have not attacked an owner with names etc just...
If Fiat will allow the Viper to continue to exist as a halo car despite the very slow sales, a la Honda NSX, then I dont mind if it continues the way it does as a pure throwback car with a few tech concessions in the mix. As long as it continues to exist is my concern.
If it "still" is being...
Bruce I respect what you are trying to accomplish with this post. But I guess I'll be dubbed the 2nd troll in this thread because I disagree with "some" or your questions:
"Do you really think that SRT is the only one to give Motor Trend or other magazines a mule or test car that had some...
It does make you feel they either have something up their sleeve for the Viper or they have written it off at least in its current form. We shall see what happens after 2015. Either way bringing out the Hellcat with 707hp and running with or beating the Viper in the straights wont make anyone...
I think the idea that some have of the Viper being dead in the water existed way before the Challenger Hellcat came out. So the OP's premise isnt new. The G5 is the best Viper built to date but that hasn't meant anything to the majority of car enthusiasts out there because of how its marketed...
You know its hilarious to see myself and some others mentioned about more power, better brakes etc to help the car be more desirable and sell and as usual some twist it and turn it into us wanting a drag car and that we are dogging the Viper on its quality etc. A real constructive discussion on...
