Nice write-up and video. Looking forward to your VIR lap times. If memory serves the 08 ACR did the 4+ mile VIR in 1:48 secs just for reference. That was a C&D lightning lap time from a few years ago. Be safe.
I agree with you 100%. I think Ralph is an asset the Viper program should not lose as it continues to evolve as he has shown, as with the G5's improvements, that the Viper DNA will still permeate the final product even when change occurs. Its obvious that there will always be a purist model so...
Sticky tires, CCB's, vert and DCT and I see a whole different demographic added to the usual niche crowd coming Dodges way. No-brainer imho. I think the first three will be here in the near future if Fiat is committed to the Viper.
Completely agree. I am sure there were more than a few buyer that chose not to go Viper because of no DCT option. I just don't see a downside to a DCT "option" except that maybe it outsells the manual equipped Vipers. There is no chance the Viper will ever be offered without a manual anytime...
Another great TA article. I think I've read only one iffy review about the TA so far. That in itself is incredible considering the disdain most (geared toward comfort) automotive journalists have toward the Viper in general. The stiffer more track focused Viper TA is the one they love not the...
NB in case this was also directed at me, I wasn't complaining/knocking the Corsa's just musing about how much more potent the TA would have been with equal sticky tires as on the ZR1/Z28 for example. If its this dominant with Corsa's just imagine what it would run with Trofeo's/current MPSC...
It would be great to see the Viper on some super sticky tires again. Trofeo R's for the Mclaren P1 were just released in UK according to what I read on another site and the P1 is brand new. Much smaller sized than the Vipers though. No news on an ACR model yet so hopefully the TA gets it...
I don't really care anymore about the expected by now bias against the Viper as long as it demolishes the competition on the road course like it did here. Shades of the original GTS dominance right here. Love it.
Now you are getting where Im coming from. Notice the Porsches have a choice of transmissions albiet you have to choose different models to get them but its still a 911.
I dont think the DCT necessarilly will transalate into big gains for the Viper around a circuit track time wise but its...
I was obviously speaking from a street car perspective and you know it lol. Look at the track times between the manual street cars vs the DCT equipped street cars in the Vipers league at tracks like the Nurb, Laguna, VIR etc and you will see that the manual cars are right near or at the top...
Wow at this thread. I'm with the DCT crowd. An "option" is exactly what it means. It should NEVER replace the manual imho. A DCT would give far more improvement to the Vipers performance and desirability to a larger piece of the market than a mere clutch and flywheel upgrade as was...
Agreed. That is why a track test would have been the objective, sensible thing to do when you are reviewing cars of this performance caliber that are just so different in mission. I miss the days when sports car reviews were much more focused on performance and much less on comfort...
Two sports cars of this caliber and no track tests to determine the performance superiority of either car? Instead we get the reviewers subjective analysis on which is more comfortable as a basis of which sports car is better. Brilliant.
You got me wrong. I was refering to the big power/tq numbers with comparitively skinny 275 tires out back a la GT500 with its 660+ and I think 285's out back, not the weight issue...Would have liked to have seen a 315 or more back there straight from factory not to mention how much better it...
Interesting read on MT. Seems like the Hellcat will be over 600hp as we knew but weight around 4400lbs ish yikes, and the SRT will be 4200lbs ish. It looks like they will be following the Mustangs lead with big 600hp plus but with skinny 275 tires....Car looks real good in and out though...
W8ing for vid. Really interested in what the GT3 guys think of the TA's taillights that is if you feel comfortable enough yet to push the beast for a good lap time. Above all of course, be safe. I was anxiously waiting to see the TA on tracks vs cars like these as it seems the mags are not...
Cool vid. Thanks for sharing...They had some fast racecars on track there. That ACR-X and red 458 shot by pretty fast as expected of full-on racers. Any idea which was faster around the track? Your TA looked and sounded great.:2tu:
Wow that's no contest. That was a bit of a surprise given the AWD, much lighter weight and tranny of the bull. If the Viper had DCT that would have been really really ugly. You have to admit that Lambo is just an awesome car though. I love those Superleggera's. Call me stupid but I'd take a...
I guess this Jag is more like an ACR than the TA so I can see it may be a problem for a TA which has much less aero. I guess this makes this a bit of a perspective change for me then on the Jag.
There is no way it was Big Willow...Probably Streets. It appears that it may be published in the next MT according to the Jag forum I was on. It appears that Randy said it was faster than the Viper TA he ran there according to the forum. It could be hype, more MT goodness toward the Viper etc...
Yes its definitely not as good looking as the viper at all. I do not know if there was an official run made by the TA but on another site quite a few have said that Motortrend had Pobst test the Jag at Willow and it was a bit more than 1 sec faster than both Americans he tested there...
Agreed. And here is some more bad news if SRT really plans to sell this at 170k...Apparently the new Jag XKRS-GT has beaten the Viper TA's and ZR1's record at Willow Springs by more than 1 second. You can get the XKRS-GT for 170k+ from what I have read. I dont think colors are going to get it...
