Which one, a 96 or 97 GTS?
The early 1997 GTS's also had cast wheels, just like the 1996's. You have to look behind the spokes on the rim barrel to identify whether the 1997 wheel is cast or forged. 1998 was the first full year of forged.- Ron

Advice Needed, Going To Drive My Museum Piece--25 Mile B/W 97 GTS
Sorry, I'm 1996 focused... Yes 1997 had an intake issue so not a bad idea to replace if you're experiencing rough idle / vacuum leak. I used the heavy duty aluminum foil from the grocery store. I think it worked fine, but others may have better ideas. The issue is the the fiber insulation on...- Ron

Forged or Cast - How do you tell?
1996 & early 1997 GTS's came with cast wheels. Below is a 1996 wheel with the weld bead quite visable. Forged is smooth in this area. While having a cast and forged wheel next to each other will show the forged as "shinier" and more chrome like, you will not look at the cast wheel and consider...- Ron

No room in the sill for heat shield wrap...
In my opinion airflow within the sill is the answer, not airflow stifling insulation. It can be had without cutting anything.- Ron

Side Sills corroding!!!
Speaking of GENII's only and early ones at that, the root cause of sill corrosion is the unbacked sill insulation holding moisture (rain & car wash) and steaming the inner sills at every engine start. Mopar oil filter vs. Mobil 1 filter?

The Life of Oil
Thanks Tom, always enlighting. I took Tom's advice and went diesel but I couldn't get over the psycological hurdle of a non-synthetic in my Viper and went for Mobil's Delvac 1, the "Mobil 1" for diesels at a 5W-40 weight. I do let it stay in the pan for 2 seasons and over that time it hits...- Ron

1996 GTS heat shields are not held in by rivets, they are held in with glue. The rivet issue is a GENI problem. On the early GENII's the back side of the sill insulation is exposed fiber, the heat side is metal foil. The fiber side absorbs and holds rain / cash wash moisture and then steams...- Ron
