I'm not so sure it's an issue of blowing the trans in the traditional sense, but rather maintaining the shifting integrity of the syncronizers. The wrong fluid could waste the fiberous ones. In the old Super T-10 and M-22 Rock Crusher days, they were brass and a lot more robust.
Redsled,
I was referring to the post by 01ACR/Viper. He seemed to indicate that the Syntorque/Mopar equivalent was a rip off versus the Tremac recommended ATF (recommended for non-Viper T-56's), though I might have missread him.
I've found Syntorque and the Mopar equivalent similarly priced.
Viper T-56's used to come with ATF as the factory fill. At some point, Syntorque (under the Mopar brand name) was specified as factory fill and TSB'd for retrofit at address the complaint of neutral gear rattle (weenies) along with some level of added durability. Anyway, if you go to the Tremac...
Thanks RS & Juli. I've always loved the look of cars in snow. I was changing the oil in my lift and had to back the Viper out for an hour. It was the only time it's felt that soft fuzzy stuff on it's skin.
Jon,
As you said, the reality is what they actually sell for, not what anyone believes and if 1997's consistantly sell for more than 1996's, I'm with you.
The part I don't understand is the perception that there were improvements in the 1997 GTS that the 1996 GTS's didn't incorporate over...
'97 worth more the '96? Are '54 Covettes worth more than '53's?
1996 GTS = First year of production, only year of unique stripes, Indy Pace car year
1997 GTS = later production changed from cast to forged wheels
All other variances TBS equalized
Another terrific IN/KY VCA Christmas Party!
Thanks Debbie for all your work in putting it together and to Skip, Courtney & Jon B for helping to make it "festive"
Get a shop manual and look at the wiring diagrams. There are plenty of ways to design your own anti-theft device.
Remember though, the most secure is the one you tell no one about.
If the timing chain cover gasket wasn't replaced yet, that's most likely the culprit. Failure of this gasket is common on 1996 GTS's. It's either a coolant or oil leak.

If the hood was painted like the factory did, using the same brand of paint (Akzo Nobel / Sikkens) and the stripes were applied using the same method ASC did, how would anyone know, assuming there isn't a CarFax record of the repair?
If it's "noticeably" a replacement hood, I get it.
If it was raining heavily, your airbox (underneath the passenger side hood vent) might fill quickly enough that the duckbill drain can't let it out fast enough. If it overflows, it dumps the water in the passenger footwell.
I've also seen the duckbill material get "sticky" and not open at...
