Dusty Viper-What do you do?
Junkman, two questions on the California Duster: 1) Are all suppliers of this duster equal? Or are there knock-offs out there to watch out for? 2) Most car shows entail a dusty car with hot paint in direct sunlight. You say "no detail spray", so is the only option a California duster...- rw99

Viper GTS-R qualifies 1st and 3rd in Long Beach
Oh, and is there some way to watch these races in "GT only" mode? With more knowledgeable announcers? That seemed pretty bush league; I wonder if those guys were the regular Indy car announcers that were pressed into service for the entire weekend? Aaghh: "the number 93 Corvette" Rich- rw99

Viper GTS-R qualifies 1st and 3rd in Long Beach
But, a clear advantage for the Z4's would've shown up in qualifying, right? And qualifying well is more important at Long Beach than any other ALMS course: such a short race, with less real estate for passing. So I don't think they sandbagged. Perhaps more likely that they had the tires...- rw99

Lap Timer Recommendations
A smartphone can be a very useful timer (and data acquisition tool), but you'll want to utilize an external GPS that can sample at a higher (more frequent) rate than the phone's onboard GPS. Check out my thread. This is somewhat dated info, so there may now be better and/or cheaper...- rw99

Totally amazed with real tires
Good to hear your insights; I've always been curious about the difference drivers feel when going from the Cups to an R6 or similar dedicated track tire. In my own (limited) experience, it's a little weird with the Cups... as you say, great grip, but it seems like they're more likely to let go...- rw99

CF Wrap and stuff...
Gotcha, thanks for the details. Even $2000 doesn't sound too bad for completely changing the center section of the car. Especially with the curves and angles of the roof section; that looks like it'd be REALLY difficult to cover perfectly. Does this type of wrap pass a "12-inch" close...- rw99

Awesome! Are all of those wraps seamless? I really like the idea of wrapping instead of repainting. I love my wet black now, but I know it's only a matter of time before the inevitable nicks and chips will accumulate. The CF looks fantastic on a center banded ACR. The car looks great...- rw99

Good info, thanks! Nice thing about the WiFi is that you don't need to burn battery and memory in the staging lanes or grid; my GoPro's usually out on the front clip. One battery for two sessions is fine.- rw99

You look at the performance the high-revving NA small block V10's generate and drool. Sure, there are MANY differences, most notably engineering and materials $$$$$, but it seems like the use of VVT could allow the 8.4 to grow some more power with another ~700 rpm. Huge difference? No, but...- rw99
