Gen V has it's work cut out for it at the Ring...

Agreed, but why not have both? If they had the budget it'd make a more sensible distinction between a raw base model SRT10 and a GTS to have one raw like it is now and the other with a 6-7 speed super slick PDK or similar with electronic clutch etc. The new tech trans would be worth several...

Stock SRT dyno - 558 rwhp and 515 torque

That's bang on for 640hp. We are bound to see higher once they get a few miles on them. Of course we're also bound to see higher numbers on more friendly dynos too, but trap speeds tell what you are really making.

With those timeslips on stock tires I find it hilarious someone tried to give you driving advice. When you explained how you did that, I'd take notes.

It's getting harder to maintain my enthusiasm...

I wonder if part of the problem is that in order for SRT to be satisfied the level of build quality is right, production speed has been unable to meet expectations to date? If that is true, perhaps as these bottlenecks are fixed production speed will improve noticeably? I also agree with Paul...

    11.1@ 127 Pretty strong!

HAhaha, brilliant. I can't believe this argument keeps alive. How about comparing performance for a price? I imagine a $350k Viper will do pretty well against anything else in that price. For $350k it could be twin turbo, pass emissions, hot lap on low boost, run 8's on kill and drag tires...

    11.1@ 127 Pretty strong!

So cliff notes are that the new Viper is slow even when it dips into the 10's because it can be beat by a $40k Mustang and save you $100k. Great, why not compare that Stang to an Aventador and save yourself nearly $350k!! But wait.... won' t it still be a Mustang? This reminds me of the guy...

First crashed Gen V on public roads?

Poor guy. Sounds like he stopped to get a clear run so he could try the car out, if so, I can relate as I have done that when it was the only way I could get some room to try a car out before getting back into traffic. Tragic it ended like that for him. re the cables, maybe the threat of a...

Shame on GM? For you Vette lovers!

Right or wrong, globalization is here to stay unless we are all forced back into caves because some retards decided a nuke war was preferable. Nuke war is not preferable, and I like caves. China will have a larger economy than the USA by 2020, with India coming in 3rd. The balance of power...

    Twin turbo life expectancy

Cheers :-) There is only one TT Viper that I know of here, plus a TT SRT10 Ram. Guessing, there would be about a dozen Vipers here in all, but I have no idea where they all are as there is no club here for them. Viper are way more rare here than Lambos - which have their own dealership here...

    Twin turbo life expectancy

On the original post of this thread: 1 - Some TT Vipers are put on the market quickly not because they are broken/fixed or about to break, but because the power scared the crap out of the owner who thought they wanted well into 4 digit power because everyone else was doing it and it would be...

    Factory supercharged V-10 in development?

I am aware of failures but the reason is not because the turbos are remote. It is not location that hurts engines, but setup and tune. STS builds to a price, we used some of their stuff and threw out some of their stuff. Good people but like anything in the aftermarket, you trust blindly at...

    Factory supercharged V-10 in development?

Thank you. You are right. There is no discernible loss of throttle response as 0.1 second is all it takes to get air from back to engine, but there is a slight increase in lag between NA and boost. On a small motor this is a problem for a street car - race cars can compensate. But with an 8L...

    Factory supercharged V-10 in development?

Absolute rubbish. Show me your mates grenaded DIY and I'll show you either an engine that should never have been boosted by any system (beçause it was tired), had a failed inferior part (which will kill any system), or was just a bad combo/tune. For every one of those that blew there are...

    Factory supercharged V-10 in development?

I'd support any boost program, but to my mind, this is the real answer. Can run the same full length race style exhaust that a blower setup would like yet move the heat and weight to the rear. Add to that tuning and sizing so there is no boost until 2k with boost regulated till 4k (ie full...

    Factory supercharged V-10 in development?

Fortune favors the brave, and SRT have the balls to do this. As has been said, there are extremely talented niche small firms that are experts at low production hand built runs, and because the major component is labor, the costs are easily passed on with margin. When you do not have to...

Is Imitation the Sincerest Form of Flattery?

Well I think they hit the jackpot on that one. Given it is only the base model and there will be future ZO6 and ZR1 versions, for the money that is one beautiful car. It is no Viper, but I predict many garages will sport both side by side. Good on them.

    Hmmmm, words from Ralph

lol, fact is NA 2V and OHV can make 3hp per cubic inch. Let's put that in to perspective: One of the finest 32V quad cam V8's ever made is the Toyota 4L found in the Lexus since the early 90's. A gem of a motor that responds to mods and goes forever. To match 3hp per cube NA it'd have to...

    Automatic Viper?

In a user pays world your argument makes a lot of sense, and I respect your opinion as you have enjoyed a Viper on both track and road more than most. Obviously, anyone can retrofit anything at their own cost. If the car was kept raw and pure those with disability could still pay to have an...

    Hmmmm, words from Ralph

I believe that. The Lotus developed ZR1 32V Vette was quite an engine in its day, but would not hold a candle to the LS7 or any Viper from Gen 2 up. In an engine that spends most of its time under 6000rpm OHV rules for a given space to fill and weight. End of story. Those that will not buy...

mnc2886 is correct in his post following this one of yours. My opinion might not mean a thing but when asked by a supercar builder (Hulme) to come up with a recommended engine for their car (knowing they had been offered anything from the BMW line) both myself and a top car designer in the UK...

Gen V vs Aventador vs LFA (engine revs)

I imagine a Viper at 9000rpm will sound something like a grenade going off, followed by the tinkling of metal on pavement and a a dribbling sound as the car makes a big wet spot. Sorry, couldn't resist :rolaugh:

    Automatic Viper?

^^ This. In stock form a stick shift is fun, but from a modders point of view - let the purists try to drive their stick shift around a mountain pass at over 1000hp and scare themselves to a standstill. There reaches a power level when for real quick and safe driving, you only want to be...

    Hmmmm, words from Ralph

The 5.0 engine is far lighter than the Euro V8's of equivalent capacity but is still a wider engine taking up more space than an LS7. A DOHC 40V 8.4L V10 would be physically massive, though technically possible to fit between any generation Viper fenders. Getting a decent exhaust in there...
