What is this I found under my intake????

Touche Dexter with the Merkin reference! The Merkin is the female equivalent of the Codpiece. Both serve to "increase one's package." A bulge for the codpiece and a mound for the merkin.

C O D Y I think that's what I was suggesting... so was that the guy that was competing? Tom PS. I think we should give that guy the code name of Rumpelstiltskin since sometimes we nave legitimate needs to refer to his products, one of which I own.

Huge dry overspray problem with Sikkens ColorBuild as Surfacer

Some pics. Do not click on them, they are hideous and may lead to years of sleepless nights! dry spray 1 dry spray 2 Looks like I sprayed ceilings in FL homes 30 years ago, eh? Fit to be Tied, Tom

Huge dry overspray problem with Sikkens ColorBuild as Surfacer

I have a mess on my hands. I have another thread that went into problems with my air supply to the gun. Well that is solved. Now I just laid on 2 coats and here is what happened: First, I simply could not get a uniform fan pattern (i.e. a constant thickness verical stripe), instead the best...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

I know when I painted acrylic enamil I got the glass finish by using the slowest reducer AND retarder. You simply couldn't get the paint to dry slow enough. Of course, you have to watch for the runs. I want to find out more about Sikkens water base system, AutoWave and AutoClear WB.

HVLP question regarding high build primer

HP: Yeah, I found out about the 1/4" connectors, I was getting something like 7psi loss per connector with various setups. Actually, the 3/8" connectors do a pretty good job with 3/8" hose but they are bulky. EllowViper: This Sikkens ColorBuild I'm using recommends 1.9-2.1mm while PPG NCP271...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

I've got something workable: 3/8" coupling micron filter w/regulator 1/4" coupling 35' 3/8 hose 1/4" coupling T w/gauge gun After using this gun in another paint booth with a Binks micron filter/regulator, it was instantly clear that the micron filter/regulator has no CFM capacity - should...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

I'm still tracking down the pressure drops. I have 100 psi at the line (shop has mega compressor capacity). My big micron filter w/egulator appears to be about a 25-30 psi drop and I know the 1/4" couplers are adding maybe 7 psi per coupling and there are 3 of those in the system. I'm going...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

Latest developments: Looks like massive pressure loses in system. I had the following: delux, large micron filter w/regulator 50' 3/8" hose disposable carbon filter I found a small "gun-size" regulator w/gauge and added it to this series.\ At 80 psi at the micron filter, was I was only...

Block sanding 17lb. carbon fiber hood on sawhorses... No Way???

This is all second hand information (and it does seem to weigh more than 17 lbs) but I believe it was a very early SVS hood. I think the 17 lbs may have been a "stripped" weight with no "gel" coat. By the time you have it all blocked and primed and latches put on it, it definitely is more...

    Paint is finally going on......

Re: Stripe masked on hood Although this thread appears to have been exhausted, I just had to add that my hood/fascia repaint has stripes that were ANTI Pete Brock stretched. 20" on the roof and rear of hood, and 21" at the fascia. Of course, with the H-man fascia, it seems to exaggerate it...

Block sanding 17lb. carbon fiber hood on sawhorses... No Way???

Well, this is really a pathetic post, but how could somthing this simple be such a pain??? Well, the hood is so light that when I try to get a nice pull on a 16" Dura Block, the hood slides on the sawhorses rather than the sanding block on the primer. I'm about a camel hair away from putting...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

I'm sticking with the paint specs, but they do specify a 1.9 to 2.1mm cap and I'm using a 1.5mm. I'm thinking a $30 1.9 would actually work better for me. Let me ask this question, what are the downsides of having too big a cap? I think someone said for finish coats, you get less orange...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

Raysir, that could be part of the problem. This Sharpe says something like 43 psi inlet for 10 psi at the cap. I don't have a pressure gage on the gun ( I know this is a nono) and found that setting the regulator on the 50' line to 60-70 was essential to get anykind of fan pattern. The fan...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

That's the plan Mopar Steve. I might get even an Astro or a Finex for primer, but I'm going to get a Big Pig cap, 1.9 at least. I figure with primer, you can always cut back on the paint flow. Latest problem/discovery is hilarious. It appears it is not possible to block sand a 17 lb carbon...

HVLP question regarding high build primer

HOW TRUE!!!! But I'm inclined to get at least a 1.9 I'd rather have to contend with too much paint flow Thanks Tom

HVLP question regarding high build primer

The problem is that I can't get a nice heavy paint flow thru the gun. To get any kind of flow, I find that I'm turning the pressure up way beyond the HVLP range. To get any kind of wet application, I have to spray 2-3X slower than normal. This results in taking over 5 minutes to put a coat of...

    Paint is finally going on......

Re: Stripe masked on hood Double Venom, I pretty much read this entire thread and couldn't figure out exactly how Jay did them. Is it the double masking where you mask and paint the stripe based, then mask off the stripes and paint the body base - that way you have the same amount of base on...

Need hole diameter thru the hood at the RHS speaker grille.

Need hole diameter thru the hood at the RHS speaker grille.

I need to hole saw drill this on my carbon fiber hood "restoration." Looks like the ID of the rubber gasket is about 5" but there appears to be a 4" hole that appeared to be plugged when they made the mold for the inner panel. I'm guessing that the OEM diameter is 4" Thanks so much in...

    Paint is finally going on......

Re: Stripe masked on hood Thanks Double Venom, I was thinking the Pete Brock reference was to the sequence of painting, masking, painting etc. For my black w/red stripe repaint, I'm planning to paint the general stripe area with red, mask off/cover the stripe, then paint the black, unmask and...
