Which paint did you use for the garage floor ?

My garage is a working garage - engine rebuilds, suspension work, brake work etc. I am driving cars in and out all the time and putting cars on jack stands and rolling jacks around on the floor every day I work on the cars. I occasionaly spill coolant, oil, and brake fluid. How many RaceDeck...

STFU w/poor results: Please comment on your lightweight flywheel.

I'm one of the can't tell much difference crowd. I put a lightweight FW on along with a new clutch and it feels mostly like stock too me. Maybe the engine revs a little quicker, but it's not a big difference. Also, I don't see any big difference in driveability - no problems stalling here. Jim

I have used both of the methods mentioned above on my Z28 and they work great. Jim

    Hi guys!

I bought a GTS new in 99 and a Z06 new in 01. It's true, the Z06 is a better daily driver. I put twice the mileage on the Vette, although if I could keep only one of the cars, it would be the Viper. Jim

    SRT-10 in the rain

I have to know what the big deal is about driving in the rain. Really, when I see posts like this I honestly do not know what the possible concerns can be. Drive your friggin cars in the rain! It's no big deal. Maybe it's because I live in the NW and it rains all the time so I'm used to it...

    Shakes rattles and rolls

Out of curiosity, what BMW did you have? I traded a 98 M3 on my 99 GTS (new)and the Viper does have a few more interior squeaks then the BMW, although not too bad overall. The noises mostly come from the windows when they are rolled down part way and the handbrake lever. Jim

Viper GTS slams into the wall @ VMP tonight racing me =(

I sure do hate to see that happen, although, over many years of track days I've seen a number of cars go off and hit the wall - including the Viper right in front of me at Viper Days. The latest casualty was a totaled E46 M3. Whenever I drive my Viper at the track, I recognize the financial...

I'll probably get crucified for this, but I traded the Viper on a new Z06

Re: I\'ll probably get crucified for this, but I traded the Viper on a new Z06 I put twice as many miles on my 01 Z06 then I do on my 99 GTS. The Corvette is my daily commuter, rain or shine, and the Viper is my 'toy'. I can see why you decided on the Vette for 'regular' use. The 04's are...

    New Borla vs. Corsa

I have a 99 GTS with the Corsa systems(s). Another observation is that the Vipers have a higher pitched sound then a Chevy V8 for example. I was at PIR (Portland) listening to the ORECA Vipers during an ALMS race and they had an awesome tenor wail - not a big block rumble at all. The Corsa...

    New Borla vs. Corsa

I think if you are a louder is better kind of a guy that the Borla might be a better choice. They are deeper and louder then the Corsa. I went from a 2.5 inch Corsa too a 3 inch Corsa and the 3 inch is great. Quiet at cruise, no drone, yet still 'authoritative' sounding at full throttle...

Any words of wisdom for driving in the rain.... other than "DON'T "

Re: Any words of wisdom for driving in the rain.... other than \"DON\'T \" The only thing I can think of is wash it when you get home. Seriously, I drive my 99 GTS rain or shine and the only 'problem' I've observed is that it get's dirty. I know the Viper has a reputation for not handling...

    Considering Road Racing

Another alternative is SCCA Solo I (different from Solo II)which is a full course time trials event run on regular SCCA race weekends The Solo I cars use the same basic race classes, and have practice sessions followed by 4 'official' timed runs in the morning and another 4 timed runs in the...

    Considering Road Racing

I also think it's important to make the distinction between track days and real racing. Sorry, if this distinction upsets the track day crowd, but Driver Education events with 'point by' passing rules just are not as extreme as full on SCCA racing. Running a Viper or any other car in an SCCA...

    2nd Snake coming Monday

Ray, be sure to post your impressions of the SRT-10 relative to the Viper and Vette. I have a 99 GTS and an 01 Z06. I pretty much agree with your conclusions about the two cars. The Z06 makes a great daily driver as it is comfortable, plenty fast, and get's great gas mileage. I also find...

Who would never, ever track their Viper?

Yes, I would and have tracked my Viper, but I would not use it as my *regular* track car - there is just too much financial risk as the insurance companies are getting touchy about covering non-racing 'track' days even if they are advertised as driver's 'education' I have a modified Z28 with...

    Guys I need assistance please!

Adam, I think you'll need to go to Reno and Look at this car yourself. It doesn't sound like you'll get any help from this crowd. FWIW, I think your posts have been fine. I'd go look at the car for you if it was in my area. Jim

Can I Drive my Viper in The Snow

I drove home from an early March Viper Days - over the Mt Shasta pass in a snowstorm. It was in the high twenties and snowing like he11. I didn't much like it but the car actually did fine. I just chugged along in 4th gear and don't think I ever slipped a wheel, although I was very careful...

My dreams of owning a Viper... Crushed today with a 20 min test-drive!

As far as SCCA T1, Gen II Vipers and the current 2004 Z06s are very close in overall road course performance. Driver, vehicle prep, and rules make the difference. The Z06 does have ABS, and better braking overall, along with continually improved suspension tuning. Vipers are required to run...

My dreams of owning a Viper... Crushed today with a 20 min test-drive!

Hi Cobra, I'm another one of those Corvette *and* Viper guys. I have a 99 GTS and an 01 Z06, both of which I bought new. The Corvette is more comfortable, easier to drive around town, and get's better gas mileage then the Viper. The Viper is simply more exciting - and more fun to drive...

    SRT-10 brakes on GTS !!

I suspect that the SRT-10 braking performance is a *combination* of calipers, rotors, brake biasing, AND an ABS system all designed to work together with emphasis on the ABS. I'd be suprised if bolting SRT-10 hardware on a GEN II car would be any better then other aftermarket systems...

Should I buy a track car?

I have a 99 GTS that I use mostly as a street car, although I do the occasional track day including a Viper Days now and then. I like having a separate track car, and have a modified Z28 with a roll bar, racing seat, harnesses, race tires etc that I run in SCCA Solo One events (open track...

Why does "Road & Track" bash the Viper?

Re: Why does I have been reading Road and track since the 1960's and they have always preferred European cars to American cars. They have somewhat softened their opinions over the years, but the editors they hire simply prefer European cars. FWIW, I am a converted European car snob. I...

Brake upgrade question - which calipers to go with?

I've had experience with brake upgrades on a variey to cars including a Z28, a Mitsubishi 3000 GTVR4 and my Viper, although I have tried only the Stoptech 13 inch front system on the Viper (oh, and pads/fluid on the stock system). FWIW, all of the 'big brake' packages were an improvement in...

Few more stupid Viper Days questions

Hi Bill, I drove my Viper from Portland to the Thunderhill Viper Days which is about 550 miles and everything worked out fine. I did flat spot a tire, but thanks to the onsite support provided by Archer Racing, I was able to buy a new one at the track. My only hassle was an early March...
