Rocket,
You will find that the advantage of a Street Serpent sill (vs stock) is that it acts like a giant mud flap. I live one mile down a dirt road and I put 7,000 miles on my Street Serpent last summer and have ZERO stone chips on the outside of my sills.
That said, a piece of of the 3M...
Actually both, depending on the application. We use mostly urathane primers (dupont) but will use a ppg epoxy primer for areas that need more durability. The basecoat on this car will be ppg because ppg matches the yellow much better than the dupont, but I usually use a dupont bascoat on most...
After blocking the gel coat, the parts are primed. I'll be back the day after Christmas to start painting the front half of the car with color.
Merry Christmas.
Jeff
Yea, it looks kinda like a gray chrome in that photo. It's more like a hardened shell that seals the fillers and allows for a nice sandable surface for priming. The panels are baked again also.
Jeff
HOLY SMOKES! Has it really been a week since my last update? Wow, I'm really slacking. Honestly, other projects seem to be a RUSH for everyone this time of year and I've barely had a chance to touch this car. The upcoming holidays is not going to help matters.
The good news is we are in...
Wow, Tim! The best of both worlds between your last coupe and the vert you had. I'll bet you can't wait to try that 600 HP!
Congrats! That is a beautifull ride.
Jeff
I just got back from my first drive in Rick's car. WOW. What a blast. OK, lets see, I need to update my car with Motons, Exhaust, shifter......
It's actually quite amazing to see how many dropped jaws and thumbs up were had in one mile with an unpainted car. One of my employees followed behind...
Actually, I'm heading over to a shop ( about a mile down the road) that has an oven I can put the entire car in. It's best to stabilize them in final position. Once the car gets back here and we remove the panels for paint, we can heat individual panels with a heat lamp if we have to.
Jeff
Billy,
Yes, short strand glass will work for the little extra fill. Make sure it is baked with a heat lamp or oven at min 150 deg for at least an hour.
Some fiberglass bonding glue (like PLEXUS 1025) will work for the flex issue.
Jeff
That's great! I've been waiting to see #3 completed for a while now. Looks like you might beat me to the finish on this one. We've been delayed a bit, but #5 should be done around the 1rst of the year.
Kandy apple red......
Today we're getting into the large amounts of sanding and fine tuning the fitment. There's alot of work involved with the sanding, but not very much interesting stuff to show. However, here is an example of perfecting the fitment.
The front door section is a little off so we cut a piece of...
The kit will work on coupes just fine. It's actually less money (no need for a decklid). That would be quite fun to do, I'd love to see it.
That being said, I'm temped to design my own coupe with a lower roofline. Someday.
Jeff
Always the wife...
But really, can you blame them? It's not easy to take a car that already looks pretty darn good then start doing this to it. It takes some faith.
My wife was the worst because I had nothing to show her, it was all in my head. I thought she was going to die when she...
ON THE GROUND!
Here is a shot with all components fully bolted into place, wheel wells, latches, ect.
We put the car on the ground to make sure it has a good stance and measure around the car for consistancy. In this case, the car has a fantastic stance and needs virtually no adjustment to...
