Can never trust new parts
Needed a new alternator for my 01. Bought a brand new mopar unit since I try to avoid reman stuff when possible. Take it out of the box, give the pulley a spin and 'click click click click click click click click click' Grrrrrr :(- efnfast

Oil Filter Recommendations
Buy it from a Dodge dealership? I think I pay like $20 artic pesos for mine from a dealership, so that's like $14USD No they won't - they don't say 'Viper' on them so they're all a ************* compared to the mopar one.- efnfast

I won't leave mine unattended in parking lots .... in the early years I would and 90% of the time I'd come back to find people loitering around it. All it takes is 1 asshole - of which they are plenty these days - to ruin your day.- efnfast

1999 GTS - Exhaust Manifolds Glowing Red
If it was doing it before, and it's both banks, that really starts to sound like an ignition timing issue. I assume you didn't screw with the timing in the tune, so I wonder if maybe crank or cam sensor is doing it? I once had an LS3 with ITBs ... to get it to idle we basically had to pull out...- efnfast

If you don't have cats/mufflers it's most likely unburnt fuel in the exhaust, either too rich or timing is too r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d. Checks O2s are working and what the fuel trims are as a starting point.- efnfast

01 GTS radiator hose question
RSI has a hard-pipe kit to replace the upper and lower rad hoses. For the smaller heater and coolant tank hoses you're forced to go with silicone ones- efnfast

I wouldn't do silicone hoses. They permeate water like 500x more than regular EPDM rubber hoses. Pain in the ******* ass. Today's hoses are not like those from 1975 - they have service lives of 20+ years ... good enough (because even silicone has a service life ... basically every 2 times you...- efnfast

RT10 Mods (Heads/ Cam/ etc.)
Tuning should be pretty straightforward now that HP Tuners supports gen 2 vipers. Find any good performance shop with a dyno. Could also do a remote tune - Unleashed Performance did mine before I headed to the dyno and it was pretty good after a few drives.- efnfast

Except if it dies in the alternator big deal - $200, 2 bolts, and an hour later you're good to go. Not so cheap or fast if it's the PCM.- efnfast

I bought Rock Auto's last new mopar gen 2 alternator ... figured cheap and easy enough to try as I don't recall seeing the headlights dim when all the load was on a year or two ago. Or maybe they did and I never noticed it, I dunno, but cheap and easy enough to see. In my research I did learn...- efnfast

Volt gauge reading
With the battery fully charged and car (2002 rt/10) on, intercooler pump on, radio on, headlights on (dtrl), radiator fan off, the needle on the volt gauge is just a hair past the 14 mark on the gauge. Same conditions but now radiator fan on, the volt gauge sits a hair beneath the 14 mark if...- efnfast

Can't program throttle.
You said you changed the throttle ?bodies/sensors? - I think they need a dealership specific tool to be re-learned (i.e., not just an at-home reset or autozone scan tool reset), don't they?- efnfast

Built engine I don't blame ya ... remote diagnosis is never fun ... now that it's working again all I can do is wait and watch for anything funny. But if something mechanical changed, you'd think there would be symptoms at either cold start, idle, cruise or WOT .... so weird that everything...- efnfast

Battery is only a year old (although since batteries are crap today I guess that doesn't mean much) and cranking/operating voltages seem as they've always been, but I will keep that in mind if I put in a new battery and it goes wonky in-tank Walbro fuel socks and inline 10 micron Aeromotive...- efnfast

Where to locate trickle charger
That's where mine's attached to. I don't see any issues with it. What they might be referring to is if you use a ring terminal on the + stud rather than the alligator clips. If you use a ring terminal you have to spin the nut off the + stud, which can cause the stud to spin and short your...- efnfast

then re-loading it would have fixed the issue (it didn't). With my new revised tune (reduced cranking fuel) cars starts up perfectly. If I re-load my original dyno tune from a year ago, it goes back to refusing to start. Re-load my new revised tune and it starts up perfectly.- efnfast

I know - it's all very weird. The initial adjustments Torrie made pulled back startup fuelling a little bit, which meant that instead of having to hold the pedal to the floor to restart it I could just feather it and it would start. No difference So far what I've found is that on cold and semi-cold starts there is no issue (fires up right away). Once water temperature is around 100*ish or so, then it will just crank and no start. If I floor it while cranking it starts up immediately (initially thought this meant I was in...- efnfast

Some progress today, I'm just not sure what it means. Car sat overnight. Started up on first crank, idled fine. I did on/off several times, no issues. Drove it up/down my driveway then off/on several times, no issues. I let it warm up to just before the fans turned on, no issues...- efnfast
