Re: Cooling System Issues on pre \'98
It's not so much bad cooling but rather an improved cooling fan on later models. I gladly gave up the better fan for the better cam plus the best color combo ever produced. (also to be one of the most collectable Vipers in the not too distant future.)...
The paint is baked after being applied in order to fully cure it. Any chance the panel was repainted sometime? Are all panels the same? At ASC they were all painted with different batches of paint at different times so bad paint all over is nearly impossible.
I saw CC #2 in the shop at PVO last week. Just the tub with roll cage, engine braces, fuel cell, and engine trial fit. Believe me you won't be disappointed. It looked great. Probably a bargain at $150K.
Your'e right about that. When you walk into one of these secret places and they say "Hi George", "How ya been" you know you are in good hands. Thanks Prez.
I heard they were hydroformed due to the size and shape with all the curves and that DC pays a royalty for each one made via the special process. If the above isn't true, it still makes a good story. Anyone else heard this? Tis true?
Re: ACR\'s and Jack hammer like wheel hop?
I have heard that rear wheel alignment specs can cause some of this. Anyone have details. I'd guess harder bushings if anyone makes them would also help. I think a general deflection and alignment change under heavy load is responsible.
The exact procedure is spelled out in the warrantee certificate. As I recall, pay your local Dodge dealer the transfer fee and fill out the transfer form out of the warrantee package. It must be signed by you and the old owner. My dealer sent it in and I received new papers and a card in 4-6...
Is there any way to tell if a 96 has the bad oil pan. I need to have mine checked for rear seal or bad pan. I have a small oil weep. Any chance they will use the late style pan? Thanks.
Did anyone else catch Bill Elliot's comment on TV this weekend talking about his NASCAR win last week. He said car owner Ray Evernham (?) gave him a Viper to celebrate. At least that what I think he said through his southern accent.
I'm still a supporter of a trouble shooting section where problems and their solutions would be listed. It would be better than searching and maybe not finding a real solution. Anybody else want this?
Also how about a section on honest changes and differences between years such as GenI vs GenII...

Re: 11\'s next time or my name ain\'t..........
To a great degree, a Viper's ET is related to traction and time lost when shifting. Things like that. Trap speed is more indicative of horsepower. One way to maximize MPH is to keep your foot in it till you are sure you are past the last light...
Wizard, are you sure? The 96 stripes were different from later cars (bigger gap between stripes as I recall) Have 2001 stripes reverted to the HOT 96 style?
WOW. Has anyone seen this before? There must be another problem that caused this much heat. Is the car stock? Please keep us informed as to the outcome.
If you would pay $42K or $45K then someone else probably would too. Keep in mind that$5k isn't much of an issue when buying a Viper. The quality of the car is most important. Would you "take a chance" on an expensive car for $3-5k. I wouldn't. Good luck.
A line lock is a simple solonoid valve that closes when you push the button. To use it you press the brake to pressurize the system then hold the button down; release the pedal and the front brake stays applied because the line lock is holding the pressure. Release the button and all is back to...
