A few things made it faster. First of which was that the first time the Viper went, they put a guy in the car who had never driven a street Viper. He had only 5 or 6 laps to set a time, even their data at the time suggested he could have went well into the teens. A big part of the problem was...
In endurance racing, yes 35 lbs may make a difference in fuel consumption, brake and tire wear, but for 3 laps. No. Try it for yourself. You can add weight, depending where it is and go faster. Radio will not have an appreciable affect on times.
Some of you guys are a bit presumptuous. The TA got a special one day retest on its own with Pobst driving for his reputation. The test conditions were more like what Winkler had with the whole SRT crew out setting up the car. The TA hasnt beaten the Gen V ACR on any other track yet. When...
The radio has no effect on lap times. Just because GM isn't smart enough to sell a hardcore track focused car doesn't mean everyone else has to sell cars with pleather couch seats.
12 seconds faster than the Gen IV ACR? Do any of you guys who come up with this stuff actually drive on track? A Gen IV ACR-X on slicks ran 7:03.
A little bench racing is fun, but this is ridiculous.
Tires are a big part of today's modern technology, it's the manufacturers responsibility to put tires on a car that will still make it competitive with the competition. GM finally stepped up and did so after years of putting crappy rubber on supercars. I don't care what kind of tire it is as...
Yeah yeah yeah, who cares. The Viper has come on MPSC before so its not like they bought some aftermarket stuff. Even if they are not the correct size they would still be faster. Would be a unique test, breaking the mold. Besides, Pirelli slicks dont come on the Viper stock either do they but...
No, not really, Corsas are not as fast as MPSC, but they are CERTAINLY faster than PS2's. They are R-compound Rubber, as are MPSC. PS2's are not.
The gap, like you mention IS bigger, but not that much and the only way to get an exact number would be to run them on the exact same tire on the...
LED's always do that. Don't know the technical reason why, but LED's always blink when recorded on camera. They are not blinking for real, it's the daytime running lights shining but showing as blinking on camera.
That's a good point. GM will have to wait at least a year, maybe two to have a shot at getting the record back with the Z06/ZR1 which leaves plenty of time for more Gen V improvements. Which makes SRT's response time to these events even more awesome. GM had the record for all of a few short...
Why so serious? This is just a kudos thread.
We won't need to anyways, because now that the Viper is wiping the floor with the competition like everyone expects it too, and is more civilized, they can sell a lot more of them, and even make a mini-viper thingy to sell a lot of and make more...
Only you forgot that the TA beat the ZR1 with one hand tied behind it's back on slower tires. There is more time to be gained, and faster tires coming. So the C7 has quite the gap to bridge yet. And the ACR certainly won't need flappy paddles or CCB's to up the ante significantly.
But...
Re: Vindicated?
The point that was being made was that the SRT and GTS were not going to beat the ZR1 on a lesser tire. And they still didn't.
They sent a faster car on the same tires. Even the improved production versions of the GTS and SRT were still off the pace of the ZR1. So you are...
I forgot to include the SRT engineers as well for engineering the car to still keep it's bite while making it safer to drive. From Randy's dialect it still seems to have it's fangs but will reward you if you don't back down from it.
I absolutely LOVE cars like that. They separate the men from...
The man has managed to save the Viper, and in an age where design CEO's sit back and let you take what they give you, he goes out and makes his team hurry up with the goods to get a car out to beat the competition. Within a couple of months!!! That's unheard of. All while keeping and extra...
- Not only tweaked, but adjustable suspension that can be tuned for the track.
- Massive DF, not just minor as is here. Worth significantly more time still in the braking zones and higher speed turns.
- Trofeo R or MPSC, worth more time still.
I will go ahead and wager that the new ACR will be...
Imagine how fast it would be on MPSC! Easy 1:32's. This car will beat the ZR1 pretty handily on the same tires. Wow, almost a 1:29 on slicks from a bone stock car. That's nearly Porsche Cup times.
We are talking now about the difference between the 06 Z06 and the 2011-2012 Z06 Carbon and Z07. All had the same hp. 385 was the first generation of the C5Z which then went to 405 in the latter years of the C5Z.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Look at the test times, like VIR (Z06 - 2:58 /...
I stated the relevant changes when it comes to lapping a circuit. I don't see what's so hard to understand. The tires were by FAR the biggest factor in increased speed.
The biggest part of the tweaking of the ZR1 has been in the tires. The rest is mostly fluff. You could take the original car, put it on MPSC vs the PS2's the ZR1 came on originally and it would be just as fast. The Z06 has benefited from better gearing from the ZR1 and the more compliant...
I agree, faster stickier tires is a good thing. I also would need to see it before I believe it that the PSC are faster than R6's. That's a stretch. Laguna lap times for the ZR-1 do not support his assertion if it was in fact on the new compound. The ZR-1 was only 2 seconds faster than it was...
