Planning to replace the clutch/throwout bearing with a LUK OEM, Fidanza flywheel, new slave cylinder. Does anyone feel that the transmission shaft pilot bearing needs to be replaced? It seems as if this would be a good time to do this since everything else is being swapted out. Car has 38k...
I would not worry about it. I removed the cowl seal on my 95 years ago to allow heat to escape. In addition, I fabricated vents with screening into my cowl. I have been caught in heavy down pours with no negative effects what so ever.
96 cast five spoke wheels are prone to failure. Quickest way to tell if have a cast wheel is to remove the wheel and look on the inside for what looks like a bead weld around the entire inside of the whee. 97 and later the wheels were forged. I had a front 96 wheel crack near the center hub...
Check out the Illustrated Upgrades - fuel filter replacement. Had to remove my gas tank in my Gen I RT/10 because the fuel line feeding the filter from the tank broke. Not a fun job! I spoke with Chuck Tator when I did mine who was extremley helpful (as always). He said the GT is tougher because...
Easy way to check rear gear ratio. First chock both front tires on each side of the tires. Jack up rear of car (both sides)and place on jack stands. Put transmission in neutral.
Rotate one of the rear tires one full revolution and count the number of times the drive shaft fully rotates . If...
I switched to the silicone hoses a few years ago (Roe Racing hoses). Antifreeze smell after most drives. Happy to see this thread to learn that I am not the only one with this issue. No loss of fluid, drips or any signs of seepage around any of the hose ends. Based on others experience, it...
Chuck has always been there for me, helpful, willing to share all his experience years of working on vipers and ultra fast shipping on parts. It doesn't get any better than Chuck!:2tu:
I echo Tom's suggestion regarding cutting a hole under the grill on the drivers side. I did this several years ago and the heat coming out is amazing. No worries with water, been in down pours with no issues.
For those of you that have a difficult time removing the oil filter, I have found that this tool is the best and quickest solution to removing the filter.....works great! Available at most auto part stores, Harbor Freight, etc. for around $5.00 :2tu:
I have used the Roe fan kit for the past few years......no battery issues at all. I use a Deltran Battery Tender when the car is not in use and the battery is at full charge within an hour or so after the fan has cycled on and off several times throughout the day. In fact, on long weeend drives...
I was about to pass on reading this post, but purposely opened and read it thinking it may help remind me to not get over zeolous, careless or over confident when driving the viper. This just a reminder to rest of us to drive safe and responsibly so we can enjoy our cars for a long time to...
Have one on my car for the last 6 years 20k miles, no paint issues. If you get caught in the rain or a dusty road, best to remove it and hose the backside to remove any grit or sand. Other than that.....the front of my car looks like the day it came of the assembly line thanks to the SL bra...
Call Chuck for advise before tackling this job! See the write up I posted in the tech help section regarding my awful experience chaning the filter on my Gen I. Hope that between Chuck and the write up, yours will go much smoother!
In case the Gen I owners are wondering, the pulley on the power steering pump is steel, not plastic. At least a magnet sticks to my 95 which tells me the pulley won't fail like on the Gen II's. The instructor at Viper Days highly recommends changing out the plastic pulleys before catosrophic...
Installed a 3:45 Unitrax set up rearend purchased on ebay from a fellow viper owner a couple months ago. Definitely an improvement for seat of the pants and 5th/6th gear use. You will need to install the speedo calibration unit to correct the speedometer reading. Great modification!!
