The # 53 Viper of Mike Hartley and the # 55 Viper of Lenny Diller took to the sunny skies at Sebring raceway for the SCCA race on Sunday Feb. 23rd and came away with a first and second place finish in the SPO class.
Working on the Toyo tires for its debut in the Speed WCGT series, the # 53 car...
The question I think was " Why does a Viper spin out?"
Here are some reasons:
1) Cold Tires
2) Drivers not used to high torque at low RPM's
3) Driver skill....or should I say lack thereof?
4) Showing off
5) Racing on street and avoiding debris, potholes, oil and whatever else.
It is easy to...
Eldiablo...Are you saying that a 2 piston rear caliber is no different than a 6 piston caliper? are you crazy? Are you saying that a 355MM area of brake pad surface is the same as 275 mm of surface?
Mike....I do know one team mate Lenny D. put the 4 wheel Stop Tech's on his car an it was a Huge improvement. I did a Brembo 4 piston all around kit and it was also huge difference. The 6 piston and 4 rear from AP should be even better.
I think Stoptech did have a a test up on their site of...
PS: I would not increase the front brakes without looking at rear brakes as you may intensify the Vipers front braking, causing the rear to get loose and may create front wheel lockup. I have seen this problem before.
Thanks Bill......That was supposed to be "Crossdrilled" is not the best for road racing".
I have never heard of anyone not liking the Stoptech 4 piston setup. My .02 on that is the Viper 4 piston front is an offtake manufactured by Brembo for Viper. So the Stop Tech setup really is an...
The phone number is 770-457-1046. Yes, I think you can do it yourself. The install time is less than 1/2 hour. I am picking mine up on the way to florida in 2 weeks.
Well for the last 2 years we used the Hutchens style restraint. This year moving to using the Hans also.
The more safety in a car THE BETTER!!!! Especially if its your head!
Mike,
Slotted are not ideal for road racing. If you read just about any MAJOR publication on rotors and racing, crossdrilled tend to be weaker, offer NO additional heat dissapation and the cross drilling tends to create stress cracks. While cross drilling looks kool in racing they are not the...
THATS BULL!!!!! I have had both my street Viper and Race car done. It is a recall where the frame peice for the rack is REPLACED. It is the better designed rack on the newer year cars...I think 2001 or the 2002 cars have this rack. Go to someone else as they are clueless!
Little correction on what the new CC is allowed in "WCGT". The front tire is a 275 width, not a 295 width. there is a 100 lb weight penalty for ABS. The front splitter is MAX allowed only 4 inches passes nose of car and as of right now....NO restrictors. The tire is a spec tire from Toyo. The...
Bruce from Bruces Speed Shop in NNJ, took some various cars, put them all on his dyno, ran them with there "stock" fluids in the rear and transmissions. They then emptied the fluids, put Redline in the rears and Trans's and EVERY car made rear wheel HP gains with Redline.
That convinced me!!
I guess all you guys that have bought used Vipers tracked who drove it, broke it in, how it was done....etc. DOUBT IT!
Let me say that first if I was buying a brand new car I would agree..NO ONE would put any miles on it but me. With that said. I will tell you that only one person drove the...
Ps....It was a sunny day, clean roads, no snow and all I put on the car was 20 miles....could have taken the car for hours, as he handed me the keys and told me to bring it back whenever. And you think he is a bad dealership? Tell me anyone letting you test drive the new SRT-10??
Barberra...
Actually beleive the Viper belongs to Gary Barberra as they purchase it from someone else. They paid a very high price to get the car. They were gracious enough to let me out in it as I am a very careful driver and really as it only had 300 miles on it, to not go over 3000 or so RPM's They are...
Well Mental...I have had exceptional treatment from them...Sorry to hear your problems....maybe it has something to do with that screen name...LOL...Just joking. I do agree that $ 115K is way too much....not the figure I was told but then I guess I have preferred status. I do know people that...
Well, my crew chief and Viper tech at Gary Barberra Dodgeland called me today to say a new red SRT-10 was in. Needless to say where I was today. Geno Barberra let me have the car for however long I wanted it....an hour later I was saying oh no...cant afford Viper # 3 right now, time to take it...
Re: TheRaceSite.com discusses Mike Hartley\'s WCGT Viper program
Thanks Rich......We may have a few surprises for all the Corvettes, Porsches and Mustangs being added to the rookie list. It looks like 11 new rookies in WCGT.
A lot has gone into the Viper over the winter and the new tire...
