    Changed the oil...

You better hurry up because I'm already in the process of that. ;)

Tear in the carpet on the passenger side?

I'm a little puzzled as to why they didn't just round out the carpet at that edge instead of leaving a gap. Odd.

    Changed the oil...

Not upset at all, just stating the facts. ;) I can quickly tell that there are the members in here that love working on their cars, and the others that aren't as mechanically inclined. I just think some people have the mindset that because this is a "Viper" everything is hard to do, and...

    Changed the oil...

No, I hired an independent oil tribologist to do the sample and report on it. Hopefully I'll have the results by the end of the week. - Anthony

    Changed the oil...

Hey - if you didn't want to read it, you didn't have to. I'm sure there may be a new Viper owner out there that wants to see what's involved. A lot of people are visual learners... - Anthony

    Changed the oil...

Since the pan is slightly curved and the drain plug is on the lowest point, I highly doubt there was very much oil left over in the back of the pain that didn't drain. If you look at the incline, it's really not that bad being up on the ramps. Perhaps next time I'll get a pump and see...

Tear in the carpet on the passenger side?

I noticed some heat shielding reflecting through the carpet, and it looks like the carpet is torn on the seam at the bottom of the floor board: Is this just how it is, or is mine torn? I figure I can pull back the carpet and just put a black patch on the back of it and no one would ever...

And she sounds a lot better now. I don't think she enjoyed being on the same oil for two years, although it was only 2500 miles. Anyway, the tools you'll need: 3/8" Torque Wrench Funnel Oil Filter Strap Wrench 15-Quart Drain Pan 16mm Socket/16mm Box Wrench Brake Cleaner Shop/Paper...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Alright, attempt number 2 today. I looked up part number 5037836AA on partsvoice and found a dealer 25 miles away that has one in stock. I called, they are holding it for me, and I'm going to ride the motorcycle out there now and pick it up. Cost is $11.50. I'll then return the old...

    0w40 or 10w30?

That is what I got (the old style filter). They didn't have that other part number in stock though. I didn't end up changing the oil today because my ramps are just a wee bit too tall to get under the front bumper. I didn't have any 2x4s to drive up onto either. I'll just borrow a lift...

    0w40 or 10w30?

It used to be made with Group IV base stocks, and they moved down to Group III. Mobil1 is cheaper than RP, Amsoil, and a few others, but it's more expensive than Valvoline and Pennzoil synethetics which are just as easily available. I'm going to change the oil now. Apparently my filter...

    0w40 or 10w30?

It's all very political. VW and Audi use Castrol because they have an agreement with Castrol. Not because it's the best oil. Same deal goes with Porsche and why they use Mobil1. I didn't say it was cheap oil, but it's whomever presents them with a better deal. All I am saying is that for...

    0w40 or 10w30?

    If you are going to use Mobil, I'd go with the 0w40 as it has better specs than Mobil1 10w30: Mobil1 0w40: cSt @ 40º C 78.3 cSt @ 100º C 14 Sulfated Ash, wt%, ASTM D 874 1.2 Phosphorous 0.1 Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92 230 Density @15º C kg/l, ASTM D 4052 0.85 Total Base...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Do you not have Advance Auto Parts or NAPA in your area? Walmart is a great place for oil as it's a lot less expensive. Target has Mobil1 as well. - Anthony

    0w40 or 10w30?

I guess I should take this time to respond to your post... I can appreciate that you've been around here a long time, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you know a lot about oil. ;) I'm not sure why you are taking this tone, as my post was nothing but constructive. I may be a newbie...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Sorry, I had a typo. It was a 2007. There was no RS 4 before 2007 in the united states. Previous bi-turbo V6's were used in the B5 S4 (2000-2002). - Anthony

    0w40 or 10w30?

The B7 RS 4 is all engine. 4.2l V8 with 420 hp and an 8250 RPM redline. It's an amazingly refined car. Oil temps stay around 210-220, so not bad at all. I think I'll stick with the 10w30 and see how it goes...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Thanks for the part number, I will double check. If they want an easier pour when cold, they could have used a 5w40 as well, just mobil1 doesn't make one (other than for diesel truck applications which is a different detergent and additive pacakge). I wouldn't mind running some Lubro-Moly...

    0w40 or 10w30?

If you guys want to give me the part number for the viper I will double check. But the parts guy looked it up in the system and that's the part number it gave him. Mobil1 oils, especailly the 0w40 have a tendency to shear down to a 30 weight. I ran it for 4500 miles in my 2007 Audi RS 4...

    0w40 or 10w30?

The tech didn't tell me that, that is what I say from personal experience and from my oil tribologist who analyzes all of the oils in my car. The oil filter listed for like $9.50 but apparently I was only charged $7. I'm sure it's the right filter, it's the same size. - Anthony

    0w40 or 10w30?

My oil cap says 10w30, but the viper tech said 0w40. Mobil1 oil is crap, so I was more inclined to do 10w30 since there is a wider selection of oils in that weight. I wouldn't mind using a heavier weight as the engine sure has a lot of valve noise and the heavier oil should help quiet that...

Lost my '08 but Kudos to Bernie (BJ Motors), Mark J. (Woodhouse) and State Farm

Any alternative to Michelin Pilot Tires

That is true, but the Invo's are a decent tire and they are considerably less expensive than the Michelin's. We ran them on one of our long term cars and I was happy with the performance out of them: 4 Season Test: 2007 S4 Sedan - Report 8 - Anthony
