How easy is it to turn back the Odometer?

Re: How easy is it to turn back the speedometer? Randy, I don't know when this came into effect... To be more specific, I was referring to disconnecting the vehicle speed sensor at the transmission... This way, the PCM doesn't know the car is moving. Taking out the speedo connection to the...

How easy is it to turn back the Odometer?

Re: How easy is it to turn back the speedometer? The PCM can't easily be fooled... If sustained engine RPM's go above a certain limit and vehicle speed sensor isn't registering -- the PCM throws a code. So, just disconnecting the vehicle speed sensor at the transmission won't work. Of course...

    Viper Mileage

Restoration of Vipers in future decades will be very expensive... It's getting hard to find interior trim parts for GenII cars now -- and that's a car that was in production just 3 years ago... The low quantity production is probably a factor in this. That, and some parts, like the center...

Reliable Transportation - auto transport recommendations

Tomer, I've used Reliable Transportation before. Here's their link: http://www.reliable-carriers.com/ Yes, these are the guys that Daimler uses to ship Vipers. I've only had one issue with them. The car pickup was great. However, when they delivered my car -- they had transferred it into...

Gen2 Gas Cap Area "weep hole" ?

Re: Gen2 Gas Cap Area Haven't had any problems with the drain hole around the GTS gas cap well. There are places which carry similar (if not the same) gas caps: http://thinkauto.com/caps.htm

Lifter tick at start-up louder/longer when oil level topped off.

I've only fired up my Viper a few times without pre-pressurizing the oil galleries. One time, after the car sat for two weeks, there was a bit of clatter for a second or two from the valves/lifters. There's no clatter if the car is quickly fired up after sitting for a week or less. Here's...

Need input on unusual engine noise

I'd use one of those mechanic's stethoscopes. They often have a tube attachment which allows you to pinpoint sounds to their source. Since I can't hear the sound -- I can only guess... I have heard exhaust leaks that sounded like taps and later chirps as the crack widened... I HOPE it's not...

    Door speakers stopped working.

Take an ohm meter and test to see if the speaker voice coil is still intact. If you get a low impedence reading, it's probably OK. If it reads way high (megohms or open) then the speaker driver needs replacing.

    RT-10 practical for daily driver?

The earlier Vipers, for all practical purposes, should be considered collector cars. Parts availability is increasingly an issue. That, and they didn't make all that many of them compared to the likes of Ferrari or Porsche... Heck, there were more '63 split window Corvettes made than all...

So I Went To The Dealer Today To Check On My Car And........ (FUNNY)

Oregon has a similar useless "make work" law. You can't pump your own gas. When I was up there, I would plop a large gas can on the ground. The attendant would fill that. I'd take it back home -- then fill the Viper.

    Ebay Scams - a solution?

Since most of the scams use "recycled" pics, sellers could just emboss the pics with the auction number or auction end date... Many sellers use 3rd party image hosting services, so they would have to do this themselves or eBay could provide this capability in their TurboLister...

Why did you buy your Viper?

Why did I buy a Viper? I had stock options and had to do something with the oldest ones. I was either going to put the proceeds in Legg Mason's Value Trust mutual funds (best rated at the time) or do something else with it. I almost jokingly mentioned to a contractor that if the company stock...

"Viper Nation" loves the new coupe???

Re: They put a cup-holder in it. Most car guys would consider that an insult. Oh but wait -- lets put some gauges down by your knee. Fat chance one would ever have time to glance at them while on the track. And lets add a stupid-looking non-functional trim-ring around the shifter...

    40k Maintanance, what should I change/replace ?

Grease your door hinges!!! If you remove the side-cove access panels, watch for shims. Carefully put the shims back in the same place. Often, there are differing numbers of them (none to two) to make the access panels lie flat.

Are Gen I parts becoming scarce??

Jay, you've restored my faith in the VCA! I'm sending in my membership renewal. I was going to just let it lapse. All of the publications were getting so damned "corporate" it just didn't seem like a club I wanted to be a part of anymore...

    Floor jack

I've got an ACR -- which from the factory seems to have been set a bit lower than the average GTS. I did a bit of figuring -- and concluded that if any of my tires were deflated the damned chassis would end up so low to the concrete that practically no floor jack would get in there. However, I...

Significant enhancements for Roe Superchargers coming in 2005 ..

Used a water/alcohol injection system on a small turbo car a few years back. I rigged a fluid-level switch in the fluid container which set the bypass valve to open at a lower PSI if the fluid ran out. It also triggered a bright yellow LED on the steering column to let me know I only had 3 PSI...

    1994 parts

Unfortunately, many of the contractors which were supplying Chrysler with Viper parts have gone out of business. One hopes that the people there had the foresight to save the molds/dies/jigs for Viper specific parts. Owners groups for some older aircraft have successfully acquired...

What's a 2001 Red ACR Worth? Input please.

Re: What\'s a 2001 Red ACR Worth? Input please. 51K is a steal. The only recall applicable to '01 ACR's was the 5-point racing harness. I think the factory replaced them with some Teamtech harness. Some dealers let you keep the original ACR 5-points. For collector value, the originals would...
