Pacific NW - TorqueFreaks ***Start of Race Season*** Dyno Day - 03/05/05

The pictures are from the last couple of dyno days we've had. We just wrapped up an AEM tune on another Viper but unfortunately it will ship back to its owner before the dyno day on the 5th.

AEM EMS Release Date End of This Month

While we don't recommend DIY tuning for the average person, there are definitely those who will try, and some who will succeed. I field calls and emails daily from people who are tuning their own cars - it's not impossible, it's just not easy :) The AEM is not a simple EMS to tune, but with...

No word from us, but if you give AEM a call I'm sure they can let you know the current public roadmap.

AEM EMS Release Date End of This Month

The only Viper I can give you a before/after on is our 100% stock 2000 Viper which went from 371rwhp/414rwtq to 416rwhp/461rwtq. A stock application, especially a naturally aspirated one, is not a good candidate to demonstrate the AEM's capabilities. I can tell you that on all AEM...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

I hear quotes like this all the time from customers of mine before they go AEM. It's typically caused by either a poor tune on their car, or a lack of understanding or knowledge of the AEM. I can honestly say that once the AEM is installed and tuned by a reputable tuner, the customer *never*...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

Different adaptives apply to different types of tuning. For example, on a speed density setup, you need to compensate for various intake air temperatures, but not for altitude. I've tuned a few cars in Colorado where the altitude can vary by 5000 feet in a matter of 10 miles, and the AEM...

Gotcha. Both the MoTeC and the AEM will make equivalent power given proper tuning. Yes, the AEM can alter the fuel curve in addition to the timing curve on the fly. You have the option of either adding/subtracting fuel and timing a given amount across the board, or you can use a 3D map to...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

Uploading a new calibration takes about 30 seconds with the AEM. But...you'll find that you can use switches in your cabin to control timing as well. You could have multiple switches pull various amounts of timing out on the fly if you like. Or have AEM's traction control do all the work...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

I talked with AEM today about this very issue. The wideband controller is built into the board and there are no outputs to control a gauge. On a typical wideband, there is an analog output from the controller which you can run to an EMS or a gauge; with the Viper box, this is not the case...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

The basemap has traction control built in, but you will definitely have to retune that portion of the calibration for your car since you're able to accelerate significantly faster than a stock Viper. The AEM's traction control capabilites would be a perfect match for your car once you are fully...

Yes, you can reinstall the factory computer to pull any trouble codes. We've tested this with our Viper already as we've had it running half of the time on the AEM and half of the time on the stock ECU for testing purposes.

Here's the display that already exists: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/ShowProductsMain.asp?ModelCd=VIPE&SubCategoryCd=EMSD With this you can monitor every parameter the AEM offers including both O2 sensors, knock, engine speed, engine load, coolant temp, intake air temp, etc.

It's looking like the only way to get a gauge displaying your AFR is to run an additional wideband sensor with gauge. Since the Viper widebands that ship with the EMS are integrated into the ECU and there is no 0-5V output, there is no way to interface a gauge.

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

On many of the turbo cars I tune, the owners request the check engine light to be one before the car is fully warm and ready to be boosted. But by far the most popular use of the check engine light on an AEM equipped car is to have it illuminate when the air fuel ratio is too rich or too lean...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

We use a Dynojet 248X (1800whp/1800wtq) with SAE correction. At 100 feet elevation, this is actually a negative correction factor :) I think you might be right about the filter...you should have seen this car pull 15:1 AFR on the stock ECU under an earlier dyno pull - not exactly the...

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

I can't answer the "when" question since I don't work for AEM, but the pricing for the AEM EMS and all kits that we provide (with and without knock sensors) can be found here: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/default.asp?ModelCd=VIPE&SubCategoryCd=COMP Hope that helps!

AEM Dyno Results - bone stock 2000 GTS 461ft-lbs.

That's exactly what I was thinking when we first dyno'd this car. Why so little power? I don't know the history of this vehicle but I can say two things with certainty - it audibly knocked with the stock ECU and its AFR jumped all over the place from 10:1 to 15:1 under WOT. With the AEM we...

HorsepowerFreaks / TorqueFreaks Dec 29th Dyno Challenge Results

The red car with TorqueFreaks on the side is my car. It put down 755rwhp but lost traction on the rollers. Apparently I need some new tires :) We haven't put the blue/green one on the dyno yet but hopefully we will soon. I expect it will put down similar numbers. Unforunately I wasn't...

Mike, we do quite a few different things here at TorqueFreaks. We install all stock and performance parts, build engines, tune various EMS setups, polish parts, dyno cars, sell race gas, and provide on-site tuning and service anywhere in the world. We even do typical "dealership" work such as...
