96 RT/10 Door panel removal PITA ... what\'s the trick?

I got ambitious and decided to do the door popper, speaker replacement and mystery switch to garage door remote all in one shot.

Unfortunately I'm stuck getting the door panel off the drivers side door. I've got it totally loose, except some darn thing is still holding onto it on at the top corner at the back of the door, above where the seat belt feeds into the door, where the door panel fits into the door stanchion and exterior door skin (topmost part of the door). Hope that makes sense.

What on earth can it be? I can't feel any christmas trees, screws or anything, but something is definitely keeping it attached to the door.

I believe it is just a plastic snap clip. It's been a while since I pulled off mine (did poppers too ). Proceed carefully, you'll love them.

I did this same thing and broke the panel. I should have remove the plastic "tower" pieces, then there is a screw that you remove.

Someone told me a Plastic Snap Clip.... pull hard. I did and broke the panel.

That's right, it's on the backside of the stansion(sp). Remove the plastic cover and unscrew.

Now I think I can see the screw, but it looks like you would have to remove the stanchion that holds the seat belt. The seatbelt post has a star hex bolt. Does anyone remember having to go to this trouble? Is there a trick to removing this final screw?

You're just going to remove the back cover. This allows you to get to the screw for the front cover. It's pretty easy

Hmm....I've removed everything short removing the stanchion, including the cover on the side of the stanchion, and don't see how to get to this screw.

I ordered a 96 RT/10 Shop Manual, will this show how to do this?

This is frustrating...so close, yet so far away!

GOT IT!!!

Just for the record in case someone else is doing it on a 96 RT/10 (could be different for different years?).

As it turns out there are these three screws under the top, rear of the door panel where it meets the door post where the seat belt post is mounted. You'll have to remove the cover from this post (which means removing the seat belt post, or the cover will not come off, and if you don't have the star socket to remove this, I used a vice grib to break it loose, then a hex wrench to finsih it off).

Now on to the projects at hand!
