Anyone have one of these?

I know that LoJack has several weaknesses... such as, if they manage to get your car underground or in a building with thick enough walls before you realize it's stolen, the LoJack radio signal can't get out and it's basically useless. (LoJack only turns on once your car is reported stolen). Furthermore, I believe only the police can use lojack's signal, and it's only a beacon, rather than a fixed readout.

However, I've seen some GPS based systems that track the car's location at all times, meaning that if the unthinkable happened and your car was stolen  , you could see exactly where it went.

Road Remote is an example.

Anyone have such a system, or see one in action?

My Dad's LS400 has a system by "On-Guard". It is GPS tracked, and works great. They even hide a battery somewhere in the car to power the unit in the event that your battery is cut. Once, when changing the battery in that car...a voice came in the car asking who was in the car. Freaked me out. I mean...I am looking at a car without a battery...and it is talking to me.

I wonder if Road Remote comes with a backup battery that is hidden somewhere. Would be real lame to have such a costly and hi-tech security system if all the thief has to do is interrupt the flow of power.

I just read more on the site. The idea is that the thief does not know this tracking device is in the car. Ah hah! Makes sense.

"GPS / cellular antenna is the only GPS antenna that does not need to be installed within plain site. It can be installed under the dash, backseat or many other areas within the vehicle for a completely covert installation. No one will ever know your vehicle is being monitored over the Internet. Installation is easy and the instructions are available online."

So it sounds like it would be a good idea to have this in addition to a regular alarm.

I like that you can:
- Get alarm alerts via email, pager or cell phone.
- Map the exact address of your vehicle's location
- Get detailed reports of your vehicle's usage history

That's all great stuff!

Vipers don't get stolen that often. I have a GPS navigation system built into the stereo in my Viper and in order for it to work it has to have a clear vue for it to work.
It will not work inside a garage or building. I also installed a pager alarm system. It is a silent alarm that has
up to a 3 mile range depending on the terrain. It does work inside of a building but not sure how far away. I have tried mine up to half mile and it worked fine. Cost around
$150.00 and very easy to install. I have one on my bike and my pickup also and have installed them in many Corvettes and Vipers as well as bikes.
