Another \"Cat\" question??

Is there any advantage, ceramic vs metallic, substrate cats. Cost is one, what about heat, performance, does one last longer that the other? Will they both get through Cal smog?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Another

I prefer the furry, cuddly kind myself....Himalayan, Persian, etc. :)

Seriously though, the Random Tech substrate cats are supposed to be 50-state smog legal, and from my understanding via research here, on the Viper the higher flow rate helps to keep things cooler, not to mention the performance gain. You should, however note this comment directly from their website:

Please note that aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles).

ETA: It is also a violation of federal law to replace functioning cats on a car with less than 50K miles, or the vehicle is at least 5 years old AND the need for a replacement has been established and documented, or a local inspection program has determined the existing converter is in need of replacement. (Again, from the RT website).

Many ignore this, but it's worth at least being aware. :)
