Gary - those are the best looking wheels I have ever seen on a viper. I love the contrast between the rear (bigger lip) and front.

I agree Gary, the 547s look amazing, could you throw up a couple more pics if you get a chance? Thanks!

Sb,
Thanks a lot. I started with 19" 546's. Sold those and went with 19" 547's. Sold those and now I have the 20" 847r's. I'll keep these for a while. They are the best looking set up for the viper IMO.

BTW, I am an HRE dealer so if anyone wants a det I may be able to save you some money.

They all look great. Gary, as someone who has changed to all my prospective sizes, how did the ride change as you went north on diameter?

Thanks, good thread idea.

As far as the ride quality goes, it was a minimal change to me. If there is anything I have learned over the years, it is to push wheels and tires to the limits. I have seen a great wheel look bland in a 17" or 18" and then be very impressive in a 19" or 20". It's all subjective but for me bigger is better. (to a certaion point) Don't be afraid to push the envelope a little.

And feel free to call if you have any questions. 912-713-5286.

Gary -- It looks like your ride height is about the same with all three sizes. Did you lower the car any when you changed sizes?

Bruce,
This is a standard 3/4" drop eibach kit. It was not installed with the 546's. If you look you can tell it sits a little higher. I want to go down another inch but the little spring caps to do it with are like 300 bucks for four little metal caps and I can't make myself do it.

Gary, thanks for posting all those old pics, you actually bring up a good point when it comes to aftermarket wheels lately, and I just wanted to add to the "bigger is better (to a point)" discussion.

To me, I like the 19" 546's better than the 20" 847's. Strictly from a proportional and functional standpoint. But I recognize your wanting to do something different, and I think most would agree it still looks good.

Now as I am saying this, you know there is some guy out there right now saying, "Man it sure would be cool to see a set of 22's on a Viper." Forget the logistics for a moment, but people like that just make me want to lower and shake my head.

Call me crazy, but maybe I am the only young guy on earth that thinks this bigger wheel stuff has gone a little over board. For example, Ice-T is on MTV cribs the other night talking about 29" Lexani's hitting the market soon. You know someone will cram a set of those under an H2 in about another week. Ofcourse, they will have to rework their fender openings and disconnect their speedometer, but it will certainly turn heads alright.

I guess I come from a different school of thought. When I purchased my Z06 3 years ago I toiled for weeks over whether I was going to go with 18/19 HRE's or 19/20 HRE's. I was torn between getting what I felt fit the car best, versus getting something that no one had ever seen before. I ultimately decided upon the 18/19.

Now that I own a RT/10 I am actually going with 18" HRE's because I think the RT body style is complemented more by 18" than the 19" wheel. Not to mention I can factor in the weight savings along with the increased aesthetic.

BWHITMORE,
I respect your opinion and agree that some people take it too far. I think if you have to modify the car to get the wheels to fit you are probably going too far. However my opinion is that the GTS has more than enough room for a 20" wheel.

On a side note I decided to go with the HRE 541r's in a 19"/20" combo on my 03z. :2tu:

Why did you decide on the 19 / 20 combo? Is it better performance or looks or both?

Simms,
Sean Roe made the brake set up. We sent them to Purner to be polished.

Fransisco,
The 19/20 combo in theory slows the car down. I just like the way they look.

now how long does it take to keep the shine w/ the 1000's of miles beat onto those rims? Unless, of course, you allow someone else to touch and pay.
