I'm finally re-assembling my 94 R/T, and I am using the new style 3 layer steel head gaskets, does anyone know the propper amount of torque to use, and should I follow the tightening sequence in my 94 shop manual? (I have been told the torgue values listed no longer apply) any help would be great...I just want to be sure...putting this car back on the road has been an energy sapping experience not to mention the $$$$$$$ just ask John B he has most of mine!!! thanks in advance for any help

I'm located in Fairfax city, It seems everyone I talk to looks at me kinda funny when I tell them I'm fixing the car myself...but I've done my own work for years and the Viper is no more sophisticated than my Porsche was and I built it from top to bottom. But anyway my Viper blew a head gasket...so I had the heads re-done with some light machining, changed the flywheel and clutch to an archer racing setup, had to put in a new trans and axles, cooling fan module(newer style),new headers and so on.The problem I've run into is the torque specs on the heads,I'm using the new 3 layer gaskets and head bolts and have heard the torque is up to 115 ft lbs. that's a far cry from the original 35 and 1/4 turn, I just dont want to possibly damage the threads in the block or have a head crack during heat expansion because they're too tight...got any ideas?

Actually Mark we may have met at the Manassas car show, I'm usually up there with Ron hickey (yellow/black stripes GTS) or Brian (blue 97 GTS white stripes) mine is your run of the mill red R/T 10 have we possibly met?

Mike:

where did you get the torque spec's. Is there a re-torquing required after the engine has been run.
