Are HID fogs worth some $$$?

I was thinking of ditching my fog lights and going with the ACR-style vents instead (not much fog in the desert). They are HID so I figured they might be worth some money. Am I right. I was guessing $500 for the bulbs, ignitors and ballast alone, maybe more with the housing and lenses.
