BATTERY SHUT OFF UNIT

i HAVE A 94 RT 10 AND 97 GTS. i HAVE INSTALLED THE BATTERY SHUT OFF UNIT ON BOTH CARS TO PREVENT DISCHARGE. EACH TIME I TURN ON THE UNIT DOES THE COMPUTER NEED TIME TO LEARN SETTINGS AND IS THIS PROCESS AFFECTING PROFORMANCE AND COMPUTER LIFE? pLEASE REPLY.

It depends on how long your viper sits in between shut offs, but most likely everytime you are disconnecting the battery your ECU is going to have to "relearn" it's settings. This will rob you of performance until the proper settings are relearned. I don't think this will affect the computer life though.

Usually around 100 miles or so depending on how many starts/stops and the driving style.

In your case the battery shut off is a bad idea to start with. What you need to do is rig a small trickle charger to keep your battery from draining down during long periods of non use. Make sure it is a very small trickle charger. You don't need much at all to do this job.

Sears sells a device called the Amper Damper that hooks inline with any battery charger that will maintain and prevent overcharging the battery. I think they are around $20.00. There is also a device that plugs into your cigarett lighter that will keep your radio and clock sttings from going away when you disconect the battery but I am not sure if it keeps computer settings. Costs about $10.00 at most auto parts stores.
