Many in the Viper community know that veteran Viper pilot Bobby Archer and the ViperSpeed Racing team decided not to return to the Speedvision World Challenge series for the 2001 season. However, most people are not aware that Bobby Archer is still racing Vipers; this time in the growing SCCA T1 class, which is essentially a showroom stock class of SCCA club racing for high-performance production cars like Vipers, Corvettes, Porsches, and Ferraris.

Bobby Archer has teamed up with Mrs. Deborah Loth, a Texas dentist and mother of three young daughters, to run Archer's own personal Viper GTS in the Southwest Division of SCCA. The Ft. Worth-based ViperSpeed crew prepared Archer's black No. 32 Viper for T1 competition, including welding in a roll cage, adding all of the necessary safety equipment, and making a few permissible changes to the suspension (ACR shocks), brakes (racing pads), and exhaust (Borla cat-back). The black (with yellow stripes) Viper is running on 18" Forgeline wheels with stock-sized Hoosier tires. Archer and Loth have been very pleased with the performance and grip of the No. 32 T1 Viper. So far, Archer has set two track records and won every SCCA National event he has entered. Perhaps even more astonishing is that Loth drove the black Viper to a very impressive 2nd place finish in her very first SCCA Regional race!

Archer and Loth plan to run a full season of SCCA T1 races in the Southwest Division, with Archer driving the National races and Loth driving the Regional races. They also plan to attend the Viper Days event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in late April in preparation for the SCCA Run-Offs at Mid-Ohio in September of this year.

Archer is happy to be behind the wheel of a V-10 snake for another race season and Loth is absolutely ecstatic about her new association with Archer and ViperSpeed. According to Loth, Archer has taught her more about racing in a few sessions together on the track than all of her previous driving schools and track time combined. In her words, "I have never met anyone who could extract more from a race car either driving, or through car set-up, than Bobby. Also, the ViperSpeed T1 Viper is more fun to drive than anything I have ever experienced." Having previously owned and raced a host of different Porsches and Ferraris, Loth just purchased a yellow 2001 GTS (thanks to Bob Woodhouse!) as her daily driver and is looking forward to getting the car out on the track at the (Texas) MotorSport Ranch where she is a member. More info on Archer and Loth's progress in the ViperSpeed T1 car can be found at www.viperspeed.com.
