Matt,

Are you SURE?

I believe they have been using PPG paint for the last several years. They did use Sikkens at one point, but not recently (unless they switched back)

I was at ASC a couple weeks ago and we were told Sikkens is what they use. I can put you in touch with several people there, email me if interested.

I was also @ ASC and was told that they now use Akso Nobel paints.

Can anyone confirm what paint brand that was used in 1996 GTS's?

Ron and Chuck are both correct. Both of you were at the plant but neither of you caught it all. Akso Nobel (I think the spelling is correct) is the OEM supplier (to manufacturers only) while Sikkens is the one you buy in the aftermarket to fix a problem. I believe Sikkens is a subsideary of Nobel. Hope this helps. Each of you get a shiney penny (not much these days). Barry Matthews would confirm this.

Rich is almost dead on..... except for the spelling..... it's "Akzo Nobel". Yes, "Sikkens" is one of their divisions. Back in 1998 I donated Akzo the use of my GTS to display at the International Auto Body Expo for a week. It was very cool.... they had the largest display space in the convention (almost 5,000 square feet), right in the center of the exhibition hall, and my car sat right in the middle of that. I made great friends with several famous Winston Cup drivers that week, who were signing autographs nearby for their sponsors.....NAPA and PPG. Sorta makes ya feel REAL good when they are wanting to talk to YOU, and drooling over YOUR car, instead of the usual other way around!

Anyway, at the time, I was informed that Akzo Nobel is the largest paint company in the world, by far........ BUT, even with all that industry business, their only "OEM" car is the Viper. Smart company!

We use their (Akzo Nobel) products to manufacture signs. It's the best paint we've been able to find.

Didn't ASC/Team Viper try PPG on the silver cars for a while in 1998?? Seems like their were some problems and back to Sikkins/Akzo they went. I may be 100% wrong - but something about this is stuck in my little pea brain.
