i noticed my car getting very hot the last couple of days and i didn't think i could hear the fan running. so i opened the hood and infact it was not running. but when i shut the car off the Roe after run fan kit kicked on and the fan was running. so what would cause this?:dunno:

i haven't checked yet. i will have to take a look when i get home from work today. this makes sense because i could not figure out why the Roe would run why the fan wasn't.

is there any way to test a relay?

easiest thing to do is to swap one of the relays that you know works (such as the ASD) with the fan relay. the _other_ thing you can do is to pull the 3-prong connector on the radiator fan (this is the one that often gets dirty and needs to be cleaned with contact cleaner and then re-inserted with some dialectic grease) and use a voltmeter to test the fan coming on. and you can force the fan to come on by turning on the A/C.

i hope this helps!

Sure. You need a pin schematic, a multimeter and a 12V battery to bench test it. A manual will have the wiring diagram with the pin schematic. Check for conductivity of the coil and of the contacts. Contacts should be zero ohms or close, coil should be some small number but likely not zero. If they do not read then you have a burnt coil or fried contacts.

If that looks good, then apply 12 volts to the coil. You can use the battery on the car but be careful touching things. You should hear the relay click when power is applied. The contacts should also open or close (depends on relay operation) when power is applied to the coil. This should be confirmed with a multimeter again.
