Grrr, curb rash

Got too close to the curb while parallel parking and heard the dreaded sound of metal against concrete. A survery of the "damage" revealed a light 2" brush on the very outer lip of the rim ('01 18" stock clear coat rims). After brushing away the clear coat it didn't look too bad--hardly noticible- but...

1. Do I need to worry about my clear coat flaking around there now? Should I put on anything to protect it?

2. Would any polish help to smooth out the rashed area? As I said it's very light.

Thanks,
Matt

Yeah, what Chuck said. The clear coat is on there pretty good, so you probably won't have to worry about flaking. It takes more than just polish to smooth out the scrape. A little sanding, then polish will do it, though you'll probably end up with a little larger area without clear coat. As i understand it, the clear is a powder coat, but you can get a clear paint on there to blend okay. Depending on how bad the scrape is, I'ld probably start out with 200 grit and work my way down to 1500 or 2000 grit, then polish.

Thats ***** man. . . Wait until you curb another then send them out. Wheels america will do them for 109 bucks a wheel. They fixed a nickle-sized gouge in my front wheel and a curb rash on my rear. Their turn around time is 24 hours.

My rear was curbed all the way around for about 1/2 year. No problems with flaking. I would suspect that this would be a bigger problem if you had chrome.

Good luck.

Welcome to the curb!!! Same thing happened to me but it was a cops fault. I was driving and all of sudden out of nowhere this cop comes speeding around a corner and he comes within inches of me shoving me into the curb or else I would have gotten hit. I have a deep hatred for cops that take advantage of their power.

I got a really bad case of curb rash all around the rim of my right rear wheel after being nearly run over by a soccer mom in a Ford Exaggeration SUV. I took it to Wheel Wizard here in Atlanta and they fixed it -- looks absolutely perfect. Cost me about $140, I think.

I live in Langhorne,Pa. and we curb rashed a rear wheel and took it to Carlson's on Business Route 1 in Langhorne and they fixed it in 2 days and you would have to be looking for damage to find it. Ron
