How Tight are Gen 2 RT/10\'s?

After putting my Gen 1 into hibernation and having serious withdrawals - I'm already asking myself if it's time to look at a GTS or look at a Gen 2 RT/10 with real windows and a hardtop.

Question is - how watertight/airtight/quiet are the Gen 2 RT/10 with hardtop and is it any where close to a GTS? I really DON'T want to give up going ******* and unfortunately can't do both!

Rocket,
I have both and find the RT/10 to be a little louder in the cockpit. I think it still sounds great and I have never gotten wet with the top on. Going ******* is irreplaceable!
I have never owned a Gen. 1 so I can't compare.

I have a Gen II RT/10 with a soft top and there is PLENTY of heat for the coldest day. There is some cockpit noise, but not bothersome.

HOWEVER, you said you thought of switching because you put your car away for the winter. Keep in mind, most people stop driving in the winter because of the SAND, ice etc. So, if you are thinking about a switch just for winter driving, you won't drive as much as you think.

Something to think about before you give up those sidepipes!! :) Just wanted to add my .02...

My son's friends say "man your dad's car is tight" so I guess that answers your question!

ROCKET62:

The Gen II RT/10's are fine when it comes to the water. I had a little problem when I first got the car with the water dripping sometimes and the top rattling but took the car to my local dealer and they fixed everything. Don't move to a GTS, the RT/10's are much better. ;)

As far as noise, it is not that bad. Of course the GTS will be quieter but not by much.

The hard top on mine is water tight if put on square. I can't tell about the noise compared to a GTS, but mine is fairly quite.

Re: How Tight are Gen 2 RT/10\'s?

Having had a Gen I RT/10 for 2 1/2 years and now a Gen II for over a year... I would never go back to a Gen I.

The Gen I is still awesome (and yes, sidepipes, more visceral, etc.), BUT the Gen II is awesome.

First thing I noticed was the tighter suspension (even the hood seems tighter on the car), the better seats, and yes, the power windows. The fit and finish inside the car is also much better. Negative was the sooo quiet rear exhaust, but a Borla fixed that for me and now I don't have to worry with always blowing dirt over the car every time I come to stop or reverse :) .

Again, both are awesome cars, BUT the Gen II is really a leap ahead IMO and with prices what they are, you are not talking a lot of $$$ difference.
