Hi All,

I am considering purchasing either a Gen II RT10 or an SRT from the USA and importing it into Canada because the stock is just not up here at a reasonable cost.

I have done a search and found some information about this but I am looking for the procedure that YOU have used for importing a US Viper into Canada. Can I find a used one and call up a company to ship/import it for me? Is it as simple as paying them and having them pick it up from the seller and having it delivered to the front door? Who have you used and was it a simple task? I don't want to have to sit at the border and so the paperwork there. There's always the possibility of them saying, "No" and then what happens?

A couple of questions that I'm not clear on:
- Do I need a module for the daytime running lights or can the computer be programmed to turn them on?
- Is any existing warrantee void up here in Canada?

Also, if anyone is consdering selling a Gen II RT or SRT, I'd be interested if it's at a reasonable price. Please PM me.

Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.

I can tell you that any existing warranty on a u.s. car will not be honored here, I had 4 years left on mine,( 1 factory, 3 extended), and it was void as soon as it was brought here.

I bought my GTS in NC and drove it up here myself. It took about 30 min to fill out the paperwork. When I finally came home I had to get a safety inspection.. That was it. Of course I had to pay the taxes to import it.

Regarding warranty.. The car have the 7 year / 70,000 miles MAXCARE warranty which I got transferred to my Canadian address. That should not be a problem, only if you are the third owner and the warranty therefore is untransferable! I was told that the warranty followed the car and not the driver. I do have to send the receipt to Chrysler in the US though, since Chrysler Canada will not deal with the warranty. But it only means you have to wait a bit to get your money back.

Some of my friends bought some US cars as well.. a Boxster S and a Nissan 350Z. They got them shipped up here and delivered to the shipping firm's address. Before they could pick up their cars it had to be inspected by the police. Otherwise it was the same deal as for me (a safety inspection). I believe the shipping firm dealt with the paperwork.. though I might remember wrong on that one.. but they definitely didn't have to go to the border!!

Hope this helps a little..

I bought my GTS in Seattle and had it shipped to me (Calgary). The process was straight forward. I had the car shipped inside of a semi (like furniture), the total cost for shipping was around $1500. Of course, you have to pay the GST on the car and then once it arrives you must have an out-of-country inspection AND an out-of-province inspection. Note that the only company authorized to do out-of-country inspections is Canadian Tire. You will need to have the running lights installed ... the local Dodge dealer took care of that for me.

Here's a good resource:

Hope this helps!
