ok, I have had my 1996 GTS since November and I have noticed that the A/C will every once in a while blow hot. I mean, sometimes when I get it out of the garage to drive it the A/C only blows hot and seems like it is not on. Lets just say I have put on 500 miles since I got it, and the car has 32k miles right now.

So today, I decided to recharge it myself thinking the Freon is low. When I hooked up the kit (I have done this on other cars with no problem), the A/C was not pullin gfrom the can (lines and can not getting cold). After playing around for awhile, I finally got the A/C to pull from the can and I emptied one can. The temp at the vent only got down to 65, so I decided to hook up another can. Again, I could not get the A/C unit to pull from the can.

My worst thought is I have a bad compressor, or I have a faulty check valve (TSB) as discussed when I did a search. Anyone have this issue on their GTS?

May be a stupid question, but what setting do you have the air venting to? Through the dash vents or the floor vents?

EDIT: may not apply to A/C, but I know the heat will only work through the floor vents.

The A/C will only work through the dash vents. Hot air will only come out on the defrost setting.

And you really should have a pressure gauge to know the pressures on the high and low sides. Too much freon can have the opposite effect on an A/C system.

Make sure you use guages overchare can cause serious problems. With guages hooked up you can check your compressor to see if it is pumping when you turn it on. If it does'nt come on trythe pressure switch first to force it to come on by simply putting a jumper wire in the plug on top of your receiver. just unplug it and install the jumper. MAKE SURE IF YOU DO THIS YOU WATCH YOUR GUAGES FOR HIGH HEAD PRESSURE IF IT GETS TO HIGH IT WILL OPEN THE HIGH SAFTY AT THE COMPRESSOR WHICH COULD MAKE YOU HAVE A HEART-ATTACK. Good luck...
