Join us on July 23 for an adventuresome trip into history as we take a water tour of WWII and Korean war ships.

Our day begins in Milpitas with a scenic backroad drive to Pittsburg. There, we’ll board the Island Serenade at noon for a 4 hour Delta boat cruise. A deli-style box lunch with salad and dessert is included. The boat is stocked with a full bar. The tour takes us to the Mothball fleet, which is the Navy’s reserve fleet anchored in Suisun Bay. The tour is narrated.

This is your chance to get up close to historic World War II and Korean War ships. The most famous ship in this fleet is the USS Iowa, nicknamed “The Big Stick”. She was the first “fast battleship” and was launched in 1942. She is the only battleship of her class to serve in the Atlantic during World War II, and she carried President Roosevelt to and from the Tehran conference. She later served in the Pacific and in the Korean War. She earned 9 battle stars in WWII and 2 in Korea. She was rejected by San Francisco as a museum and is currently waiting donation as a nonprofit museum ship.

The fleet may be dismantled because of environmental concerns, so don’t miss this opportunity to view this collection of historic ships. For those who are interested, we’ll find an impromptu dinner spot after the cruise. We hope you’ll join us for this fun day.

The tour was pretty cool. A lot of rusty ships getting older... The boat ride was fun the food sucked. The Iowa was a very cool ship and I hope it does get turned a museum.
