Hello Everyone,

I'm new the forum as of a few days ago as I am in the market for a clean Gen V (2013-2017) or possibly Gen IV (2008-2010) - both non ACR in the USA. The forum has been a great tool so thanks for allowing me to join. As many of you know, these cars are becoming increasingly rare, and the market reflects that scarcity so I ran some analytics on where we are today.

Overall Market Overview

The market for both Gen IV and Gen V Vipers is characterized by extremely low inventory. We're talking about very few cars available for sale nationwide at any given time. This is largely due to their limited production numbers:

•Total Viper Production (all generations): Approximately 31,850 units.
•Gen V (2013-2017) Production: Around 2,427 units.
•Gen IV (2008-2010) Production: Approximately 3,000 - 4,000 units.

This low production volume means that finding a specific model or trim can be challenging, and prices are generally strong, especially for well-maintained or rare examples.

Gen IV (2008-2010) Dodge Viper Market

Estimated Public Inventory 2-4-2026: 6 – 10 units nationwide

The Gen IV Vipers are powered by the iconic 8.4L V10 engine (600 hp) and offer a more raw driving experience.

Here's a general idea of current market prices:
•Roadsters: Typically the most accessible Gen IV models, averaging around $78,000.
•Coupes: Command higher prices due to demand, with averages around $106,000.
•ACR (American Club Racer): These track-focused variants are very rare and often sell for $150,000+.

Gen V (2013-2017) Dodge Viper Market

Estimated Public Inventory 2-4-2026: 13 – 15 units nationwide

The Gen V Vipers represent the final iteration of the model, featuring updated interiors and more refined performance.

The market for these is quite segmented:
•SRT & GTS: These models typically range from $114,000 to $131,000.
•GT & GTC: Mid-level trims, often with unique configurations, average around $174,000.
•ACR & Extreme Aero: The most sought-after Gen V models. Standard ACRs average $264,000, while Extreme Aero package cars, especially those with very low mileage, can fetch between $450,000 and $600,000.
•GTS-R Commemorative Edition: A special edition, averaging around $294,444.

Key Takeaways

•Scarcity: Both generations are rare, with very few examples publicly listed at any given time.
•Appreciation: Prices, especially for Gen V ACRs and special editions, are appreciating significantly, making them potential collector's items.
•Market Dynamics: Due to low inventory, many transactions occur through specialized dealers or private enthusiast networks rather than mainstream platforms.

Dodge Viper Historical Price Trends: From Depreciation to Blue-Chip Asset (2008-2026)

The "U-Shaped" Market Curve

Both generations followed a classic "U-shaped" curve: initial depreciation, a period of stagnation (the "floor"), and then a sharp upward trajectory following the end of production in 2017.
Market PhaseGen IV (2008-2010)Gen V (2013-2017)
Launch MSRP~$90,000~$110,000
Market Floor (Low Point)~$58,000 (circa 2015)~$92,000 (circa 2018)
Current Average (2026)~$92,000~$185,000
Spec-Specific Peak$150k+ (ACR)$450k-$600k (ACR Extreme)

Gen IV (2008-2010): The Analog Sweet Spot

The Gen IV (ZB II) entered the market during a tough economy, which suppressed its early resale values.
•The Floor: Between 2014 and 2016, you could pick up clean Gen IVs for $55k-$65k.
•The Recovery: Once production ended, enthusiasts realized the 2008-2010 models were the peak of the "raw" Viper experience (8.4L V10, 600hp, minimal nannies).
•Today: Prices have fully recovered to original MSRP. If you’re looking for a clean Coupe today, expect to pay $105k+.

Gen V (2013-2017): Hyper-Appreciation

The Gen V (VX I) had a rocky start, including a famous $15,000 factory price cut in 2014 to move stagnant inventory.
•The Turnaround: The launch of the ACR and the 2017 "Final Edition" models changed the narrative.
•The Surge: Since 2021, Gen V prices have decoupled from reality. Standard GTS models that were $95k a few years ago are now $130k-$150k.
•The ACR Factor: Collector-grade ACR Extreme models have seen 3x appreciation, with some hitting the $500k+ mark at recent auctions.

Why are they going up?

1.The "Last of a Breed": There will never be another 8.4L naturally aspirated V10 with a manual transmission.
2.Pedigree: The Gen V ACR’s 13 track records cemented its status as a world-******.
3.Scarcity: With only ~2,400 Gen V's ever made, demand is vastly outstripping the handful of cars that hit the market each month.
If you bought your Viper during the "floor" years, you're sitting on a gold mine. If you're looking to buy now, the data suggests the days of "cheap" Vipers are officially behind us.

Hi Darren, I have a 2015 Viper GT - Red with white 3M stripes and only 3,600 kms/2,200 miles. All stock and still has the new car smell, but I am in Canada and my GT is a Canadian vehicle.
