thanks for responding. here's the deal. i resently bought a 2000 gts acr w/ roe s/c, w/m injected and 5 lb boast. occationally when running up through the gears i hear and feel what to me seems like detonation. not severe but slight crackleing. after reading many threads on here it seemed that perhaps upping the methanol ratio might help w/ this slight detonation but certainaly wouldn't hurt. to achieve this i added a bottle of heet to the windshield cleaner i was using and ran the car. i'm quessing the w/m ratio was close to 50/50, but not positive. at first all seemed ok then i had two seperate cases of severe detonation, no damage but bad enough to scare me and cause me to just ease back home. so what am i missing here? perhaps other problems or i just don't understand the whole m/w thing. by the way, sean roe installed and tuned the s/c sytem so i'm assuming its all done correctly. any and all help would be greatly appriciated. i don't want to gernade my motor. sincerely, mark

Water/**** should not be necessary on a 5# s/c setup.
Are you sure the w/m is injecting?
When does it seem to start detonating?

I would call Sean and have him send you a safe tune for just the 5# (no W/M). Tell him what's going on and he should be able to help diagnose the problem.

What Bottlefed said...seems to me something is off from the established "tune" that Sean created; especially on a 5lb set-up. Look at the variables that could cause this...
1. Significantly lower temp than what the original tune was developed for.
2. W/M not working.
3. Forgot to use premium at fill-up...unlikely but you never know what comes out of the pump.

You need to have a W/B as well. That will show you a lot of "real time" data pertaining to your tune. For instance a good A/F ratio with detonation may indicate too much timing or heat soak. Lean A/F with detonation may mean more fuel, W-M, less timing, or a combination of the above. It is all a balancing equation between fuel, timing, load, RPM, IAT, W-M, et al. As Damn Yankee would say...Data log log log and log some more!! Get a cheap laptop with Windows XP and the tuning software from Sean. Its easy and a lot of fun to mess around with.

Good info posted thus far.

Join the VCA and then sign into the "How TOs" there you will find pictorial guides to just about everything you have asked. How to install a wide band sensor, basic VEC tuning and a whole lot more.

on a 2000, if you HEAR detonation, you more than likely HAVE detonation and damage. get it to a tuner fast.

at very least, call sean roe
