The metal shaft below the shifter ball gets really hot! To hot to hold for more than a few seconds. Normal daily driving. 20-30 miles.

Normal?

My 08 does it also, as well as the shifter bezel. Don't know if there is a solution.

Solution: Don't touch it. Hold the knob. Alternate solution: wear a driving glove on your shift hand.

Had the same problem check the rubberseal under the shifter mine was broken, since I replaced the car is a lot less noisy and the stick stays cool.

The only solution I have found is to get yourself some black heat shrink tubing and shrink it around the shifter shaft with a heat gun.

Same as Gisler-had to change the rubber seal. Very hot till I made the change.

I replaced the rubber boot under the console. The original was torn and the entire console got really hot. It is held inplace with 6 pop rivets. My shifter still gets hot but everything else is cool. I even added the Hushmat sound deadening.
