I was wondering if anyone has stripped their intake plenum and valve covers, ploshed them and then powered coat them clear?

I know the intake plenum would come out good, but how about the valve covers. I think you can get them polished, but oxidation will dull them again. If you were to powder coat them clear, would they stay shiney?

Thanks.

AB.

If this works out I might be able to work something out with a local guy here who powder coats if anyone is interested.

Regular clear powder coatings will yellow when heated. Make sure you use the stuff that the wheel guys use and those polished parts will look good for years.

I am having a set of valve covers powdercoated as we speak. They are going to be silver to match my car and the Roe SC intake runners (which I am also having powdercoated the same).

The silver I use is an exact match to the silver Vipers but it has a dull texture so the powdercoat has to be a two coat process with a gloss clear powdercoat over the top to make it match the texture of gloss paint, like on the car.

I am going to leave the "Sneaky Pete" logos and "Viper" logo exposed and polished like before, and asked if they could simply clear the whole valve cover to seal the polished portions in. But even on something so small they told me that would be a mistake.

They said they have had problems with polished magnesium dulling even sealed under clear powdercoat and that I would be dissapointed over time. So they are going to leave the detail work exposed so that I can polish it regurlarly and make sure it stays nice.

I will post some pics when I get them back this week...

From what I remember, past discussions about the magnesium valve covers suggest that they will oxidize even under a clear coat.
