I was wondering if I should run 1st up to 6000 and then go to 2nd or perhaps go ahead and go to 2nd earlier, like around 5000 or even 4500. I have a stock 00 ACR and I'm wondering if maybe the torque would pull 2nd gear enough to propel me quicker than winding it out in 1st. I ran a 12.096 last weekend while running 1st ,2nd, and 3rd up to 6000, then going to 4th. I'd like to get into the 11s and I'm looking for any technique that might help. My 60' was 1.975 so I'm sure one way of getting into the 11s would be to get that down to 1.8 or so.

Thanks for anyones help...

I have been getting lower ET's and more MPH by NOT redlining 3rd gear.... I can feel the power drop from 5500 to 6000 rpm in 3rd... I have been shifting out of 3rd at around 5300...

check out:

http://www.dragtimes.com

and do a search for vipers.... lot's times to compare in there...

my times went from 12.5 @ 117 to 12.2 @ 120

I have old tires on the car and haven't broken the sub 2.0 60' mark yet...

There are variuos drag racing programs out there PERFORMANCE TRENDS, MR. GASKET, QUARTER JR. they all figure 60', 330, 660, 1000, 1320. times and ET. I have tried to get an accurate measure, but really need break down on dyno to put in. You can shift points in the program and it seems after first gear it does not pay to go above 5,000-5,200.

OF COURSE THIS IS BAAACK SEEEAT DRIVEN. I beat all of the real racers have tried every combo.

The shifting points should not be over 5,300 rpm that's where your horsepower start to drop. Swap your rear gear for a 3.54 not only will you be getting a faster launch but the seat of your pants driving feel is much better. My stock 00' RT with the 3.54 gear, 20 psi pressure in the rear tires with a 2,500-3,000 rpm launch has netted a 1.815 60 ft. time.\

Depends! If you have street tires, a high RPM shift can kill some torque to decrease tire spin in 2nd. Then shift 3rd at 5800. Remember unless your Ronnie Sox you'll have RPM drop between shifts, so you need to figure the RPM that the shift is completed and how that relates to your torque band. With ultimate traction (slicks) I shift 2nd at 5200 and 3rd and 4th at 5800.

The best tool for a quick et with street tires is the launch. Your good below 2.0, but 1.8s can be had. And every tenth on the sixty is two down track. Try a 3000 RPM launch and slide the clutch for the first 30'.

Proper shift points should be determined by
looking at you dyno sheets.don't think anyone here should be wrapping it to 5800-6000 RPM, unless
4th gear near trap!

Easiest way to drop 60' and ET will be to not do a John Force burnout if you are sporting a stock tire (any radial other than a DR..drag radial in shorthand). That is the most common mistake that occasional drag racers make when they hit the track. Bypass the water box (drive around) and hit a dry hop..slip the clutch a tad to clean the tires....stage and launch. A big burnout on a street tire turns it into a big greasy ball of crap...
