You really have to wonder about these people. Why would anyone think an M5 would beat a Viper? My theory is that the BMW dealer when selling him the car told him the M5 would smoke a Viper and dude just believed it. Back in 1993 when I was looking at the RX-7 and 325i, the BMW dealer told me with a straight face that the 325i would walk from the RX-7 in all categories. These guys will do and say anything.

I'm not entirely sure what the M5 owner was thinking, or even if he was thinking at all. I own both cars, and the Viper is clearly much faster. There's no special magic to it -- the M5 weighs 3975 lbs and makes 330 RWHP, the Viper weighs 3450 lbs and makes 405 RWHP. The M5 is a wonderful car, and is very high-performance for a 2-ton luxury sedan, but it's not a race car.

FWIW, my best 1/4 in my M5 were 13.5 @ 106 mph, which is a far cry from even a stock Viper's 12.3 @ 117.

I love the M5, but some people don't even know their limits. The Cars are 2 different classes of cars anyways. That guy in the M5 must be on drugs or something.
Like I had a guy with a Saleen race me and i totally screwed with him, I was so far head of him that i let off the gas and made the car buck for the hell of it while he caught up....LOL...dork

That's a good one - stay safe out there.

I have a '99 BMW 540i that's near lease end & I went to the BMW dealership to recon some options. My wife mentioned to the saleman that I have a viper, and the saleman replied with a push on the new M3 - that it can spank a viper in the turns & on a straight-away. I replied with, if you're going to direspect my intelligence to that degree, then we obviously can't do further business. Step away from the crack pipe. I mean I love BMW's & respect their performance and high mileage reliability - that's why I own them, but geesh, give a guy some credit.

Dave.

Great story, reminds me of high school days.Except I never had the luck of racing an opponent with an IQ less than 50.How do you race with radials?I have a short story on this.At the race track 15yrs ago with my 73T/A SD455 ran 13teens all day with open exhaust and 70 radials.A racer came over and complimented the car, said you'd hit 12s if you put your stock exhaust back on.I say WWWhat. After watching my runs,he said you can't feel or hear your tire spin with all the noise in the car.So I tried and ran after a couple passes, high 12's.Came out,and slowly hammered down,as soon as the tires spin. Its trouble. These days,I like the louder exhaust, cause im not steet racing.Sounds TOOOFST,FYI
