Anyone that gets their viper stolen and returned in pristine condition here in Indiana is SOL! In todays Indianapolis Star & News (page A4):

"...Indiana's law says stolen cars-even those returned in pristine condition-automatically get listed as "salvage" on the title, a stigma that cuts the car's resale value in half."

I'm assuming other states are unfortunately like this, so if at least you are in Indiana, and your car gets ripped off, it may be prudent for the first day or so to try to find the car yourself prior to reporting it stolen. Another bogus law on the books.

I kinda like it because it disarms the insurance company; if my car was stolen, I wouldn't want it back. Most of the time they are damaged. So, insurance pays up on the full vehicle value, whatever that means in your policy.

On the other hand, insurance is a regulated industry and any losses they have will be reflected in premium increases for us.

I guess you can fight the system but you ain't never gonna beat the ride.
