It should be folded like an accordion with the small "boots" placed over the rear latches. This way, there should be nothing exerting any pressure on the cloth top while in the storage bag. The instructions on the storage bag and the tape are good. Hope this helps.

Same problem with my 1998. The top was always properly folded but I found two wear areas. I could not get it replaced under warranty in Switzerland. So I used two black patches that you iron-on. It does not show from the outside and is water proof. Now when I fold the top I add two pieces of bubble wrap to prevent more wear.

Yes, I was in very heavy rain and the roof kept it all out. I should say that there were no see-through holes where I put the patches. Just enough wear to worry that it may get worse.

Did the roof material DC used get weaker in recent years. I have a '94 top that still has perfect condition material on it. Unfortunately my local service guys left the top unfastened and it blew off in the wind, breaking into pieces. So now I have a new top (insurance covered it) but I'm worried it is going to be garbage from the experience you report. I've still got my old one so I gues I can always use the material on it to replace.

I think the price on the new top was around $1700. I can't remember exactly because insurance paid for it!
