Hey fellows;

I have a transmission question. Every since we pulled my 06' Coupe off the showroom floor with 27 miles on it, third gear makes a ticking sound which you can actually just feel when loaded (stepping on the gas) and when coasting it is about 75% quieter but ticking sound is still there.

I am going to take it back to the dealer for warranty work on this problem as I only have 395 miles on it, but anyone experienced this before?

The transmission works just fine and shifting is not a problem, though I have not opened it up fully yet still breaking it in), but the sound is very annoying.

I thought it might be because the car sat so long before I bought it (lot rot type of thing), but after 395 miles it is still there. It is almost like the synchros are out just a tad on thrid gear only.

As said, I am taking it back to the dealer to fix this but if someone has experienced it, I can at least point them in the right direction.

Thanks
Rick

The synchros are all synchronized and moving as one when in gear. If the noise is when in gear, it might be a gear tooth on the third gear or the mainshaft.

You feel that in the vehicle motion or in the shifter handle?

That's unusual. Let us know what you find out.

I experienced a transmission noise/vibration on my '04. Had the problem when I bought it with 2400 miles on it. However, it was different than what you're discribing. In my case, it was a scraping noise at low speed that would come and go. It was pretty loud and getting louder. There was also a slight vibration you could feel when the noise was happening.

I took it to a dealership to have it looked at but they couldn't figure out the cause, so they replaced the trans under warrantee. Didn't cost me anything. New trans works great.

Thanks Guys;

I will keep you posted. I will not have time to take it in until after the holidays, but will keep everyone posted.

As I stated, the car shifts great and holds the shift in (no popping out). It is just a slight vibration that coincides with a ticking sound , only in third gear thought.

Guess we will see after the holidays.
