VIPERSPEED WINS AT BOTH TMS AND PUTNAM PARK

Sunday, May 2nd proved to be another victorious day for the Bobby Archer Motorsports/ViperSpeed team as they claimed victories in races at both Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) and Putnam Park in Indiana.

ViperSpeed drivers Dave Fiorelli and Dr. Deborah Loth qualified first and second, respectively, for Sunday’s SCCA Southwest Division National race in the T1 class at TMS. The six-car T1 field included newcomer Charlie Shears, who qualified third, and veteran Kevin Mixon in their Corvette Z06’s. Drawing on his experience at the TMS track and the superior grip provided by the Hoosier S04 tires, polesitter Fiorelli piloted his blue No. 90 Bobby Archer Motorsports/ViperSpeed Viper to victory in impressive fashion. It was quite an accomplishment for Fiorelli to beat both Loth and Shears, each of whom had finished ahead of him in at least one of the season’s first two races at Texas World Speedway (TWS) in February. Dr. Loth ended up finishing in third place behind Charlie Shears after she got caught up in traffic during the race. With these podium finishes for the ViperSpeed drivers on Sunday, Fiorelli has taken the lead in points for the T1 class in the Southwest Division, where he is the defending champion, followed closely by Dr. Loth. As an aside, Dr. Loth’s activities and accomplishments in racing have caught the eye of the producers of a syndicated television show directed to extreme sports and a segment on her is being filmed this week. Broadcast dates for the show will be posted when available.

A thousand miles away from TMS at the Putnam Park Road Course in Mt. Meridian, Indiana, ViperSpeed team boss Bobby Archer won his tenth Viper Racing League (VRL) race of the 2004 season. Archer qualified third for Saturday’s VRL race, which was unfortunately washed out by heavy rain. The skies cleared on Sunday afternoon though, and a nineteen car field, which included nine Viper Competition Coupes, seven Viper GTS’ (GT-1 class), and three Neon SRT-4’s, took the green flag. Archer, driving John Weigel’s red and yellow No. 23 GT-1 Viper, rocketed from his third place starting position into the lead in Turn 1 and never looked back on his way to the win. Two other ViperSpeed drivers, Ben Madey and Rich Wesorick, made successful debuts in the VRL, with Madey driving his No. 32 ViperSpeed Viper Competition Coupe and Wesorick piloting the No. 2 ViperSpeed Viper GTS that was raced in SPEED World Challenge in 1999 and 2000. Madey finished second in class (GT-WC) and Wesorick finished sixth in class (GT-1).

Upcoming races for the ViperSpeed team include some of the remaining dates in the Southwest Division schedule and some mores races in the Viper Racing League. More information on the ViperSpeed team, drivers, and cars can be found at www.viperspeed.com and www.bobbyarchermotorsports.com.
