This article was published in the most recent VCA notes, for VCA MEMBERS only. It is pertinent to VIPER OWNERS in view of the upcoming VOI, and our need to 'lobby' Chrysler there. (Posted with the author's permission.)
Back at THE Viper Owners Invitational in 1994 (no one knew there would ever be another) Bob Lutz spoke of receiving our unsolicited Viper deposits by mail in 1989, and deciding to build the Viper. Bob read a sample letter, which once had a $5000 deposit check attached, that was addressed: "To the Car Gods at Chrysler, please build this Car!"
A VOI attendee, assumed to be the author, was overcome by Viper passion. He dropped to his knees and loudly cried out: "We Are Not Worthy" after the Wayne’s World hit of that era. The rare VOI-1 video shows Bob grinning wide, pointing at the goofy long-haired dude bowing in the aisle, as 500+ guests applauded wildly, while some even joined in: "We Are Not Worthy!"
As VOI-10's "Homecoming" nears, I think just how correct he proved to be. Please consider:
Which Automotive Company.....
- Hosts an exciting bi-annual event for its worldwide cult of car owners?
- Encourages us to hob-knob with Execs and managers, to listen and learn .... from US ?
- Twice noticed that new model demand would out pace ownership, so created owner vouchers?
- Created special edition cars that owners simply negotiated or begged for?
- Creates, protects, and defends our bragging rights vs. a world of higher-priced (slower) cars?
- Invites us to drive their cars on race tracks all over the USA, free, because we bought its Brand?
- Allows us to pick up our cars at the Factory, or just tour, meeting the actual hand-craftpersons?
- Invited lucky owners to France ,Germany, Florida, and more, just to taste their racing flair?
- Produced deep-discount certificates for their Friends, Family, and Affiliates to share ?
- Provides a quarterly color magazine, complete with tech-talk dialogue and news ?
- Provides live, online chats for the same kind of real-time car-talk dialogue?
- Not only created, but sanctioned and financially supports a GREAT Car Club for its owners?
If you are reading these pages, you KNOW the singular answer to all these questions. No other company does "all the above" and more for the owners of its flagship brand. In fact, no other company even comes close. Chrysler - WHAT A COMPANY !
