I thought some of you might find this useful. I weighed my Viper this morning on my truck scale. The scale has an error factor of about +/- 20#. The total weight with a tank of gas was 3420#. We needed to weigh each axle for a project we are working on, and we thought the front would be much heavier than the rear. What we found was that the car is balanced pretty well. The front axle weight was 1680# and the rear was 1740#. That kinda explains why the car handles so well. I hope this info is useful to someone.

Dash the car is listed at 3410 Some will list it as 3360

Comp Coupe is 2975 I think.

I've seen several different numbers, but one thing is correct, and that's the front to rear weight distribution. They are claimed to actually be heavier in the rear than up front. I can't see how.

These cars do in fact weigh 80-100 lbs less than the GTS.

I'm on a weight reduction project for the lumbering beast.

I've reduced well over 200 lbs of the car, and not by stripping or gutting it. I already have plans for more.

Your scales are very good, just think of the weight bal. with you in the car, as the occupants sit very close to the rear axle.

Gotta get light like the Zo6
And the Comp Coupe
What's your project?

Skip, is your website up and running yet? if so, what is the URL?

We could not believe that the rear would be heavier. We weighed it twice using two different sections of our scale just to be sure.

As far as the project goes, it is for a trailer. We are building a trailer for my car. We are making a tilt bed, thus the reason for weiging the front and back. We will use a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower the bed and we are going to use a remote so you can be in the car and raise and lower it by yourself. We are also putting a storage box on the front with a tire rack above it. We have built a couple of trailers for sprint cars and a double decker barbecue smoker that will hold about twenty people up top, but this will probably be our most detailed endeavor.

The axles will be delivered on Monday, so we will start building it next week. I will post some pictures as things start to develop.

Dash, I know how important it is to balance the weight on the trailer, but since this car is so equal, the mid point of the car in relation to the mid point of the axles of the trailer, then go a bit forward with the car to created some tung weight on the trailer. Rule of thumb on tung weight is around 10% of the cargo weight, give or take.

Website will be up in by tonight. Hosting co.'s are slow to get you up and going.

Go with six ply tires on the trailer. Goodyear Marathon's are unbeatable.

So what do the numbers on the door plate of my GTS indicate. Do they indicate the "actual weight" of the car or the "maximum permissible weight" with luggage, gas and passenger.

If it has the letters GVW that's gross vehicle weight, meaning occupants, luggage, including the actual empty weight of the car. This is just a guidline for people to know what the most the car can carry.

The GTS weighs 80-100 lbs more than the SRT.

I will be working on getting them on a diet also. They really need it. Actually the SRT has more to work with. So the GTS will be a challange.
